Britsh india

[edit]

thanks for adding british india. i am in agreement it does need to be here. i kinda dont coinsider the entire british empire to have been one large empire or unitary state. i think the british empire may have been a empire comprised of smaller empires and all united in kind of a alliance. so thank you SDFraserValley. this is my issue im bringing up is that the Kilometers area might be wrong. seeing as how this british india has borders on the earth that are still discernable if we add all its component states together i doubt that your land area figure is corect. ill check it for acuracy. i changed it to the correct size. the reason why all the other indian nations have rounded numbers is becasue theres so far into the past that no one really knows how large they were down to a exact figure. i just wanted to say thanks for being bold and including it 76.244.155.36 (talk) 08:09, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I still don't see any presence of "British Empire" on this table. Nshuks7 (talk) 01:51, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

British India/British Raj should certainly be included. Wasiq 9320 (talk) 22:48, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

British india was a dark period of our india they looted 45 trillion dollar from our Mahan BHARAT — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.201.153.15 (talk) 07:23, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Medieval empires missing

[edit]

Why don't we add medieval empires like those during Alauddin Khalji and Firuz Shah Tughlaq?- delhi sultante's greatest rulers were allaudin khilji and firuz shah tughlaq

Here's a link to extent of Khalji's empire: https://ohfact.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Alauddin-Khilji-Empire.jpg?_gl=1*15qmkvu*_ga*YW1wLXlIQW1yVEppM0FhOEJkVmZucTNQX0NzY1hoT1k4emlpMDZFSkFPUmxvWWQ4MC1lclRPdi03enZTQ193b3l4QjI. Utkarshk5 (talk) 09:39, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The reason those empires haven't been added is that no WP:RELIABLE sources providing explicit figures for the area in a specified year have been located (yet). TompaDompa (talk) 14:28, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive edits by User:Varenx101

[edit]

Varenx101 has selectively removed the (properly sourced) lower estimates for the peak areas of the Maurya Empire and Gupta Empire. Not only that, but they have also—for no discernible reason—removed every single reference on the page leaving it completely unsourced. This is rather disruptive behaviour, and not helping matters is that despite having been reverted repeatedly (including by me) and having been asked—also repeatedly—to discuss it here on the talk page, they have insisted on removing both the estimates and the sources again and again without discussing it here.

The estimates they have removed are sourced to a peer-reviewed scientific article specifically about the territorial extents of historical polities, which is about as WP:RELIABLE a source as it gets for this particular type of information. They have not provided any reason why the source should not be used, only asserted that the figures are erroneous. Cherrypicking sources like this has turned this list into a WP:POVFORK of List of largest empires. TompaDompa (talk) 11:56, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maurya empire

[edit]

Mauryan Empire is the latest empire in Indian history. Not British Raj And also, pala empire and karkota empire should be on the list. Please update it. Arch.vj (talk) 08:14, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Update the list of the page. Mauryan Empire stands at first with 5 million km² https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/mauryan-empire/#:~:text=The%20Mauryan%20Empire%2C%20which%20formed,parts%20of%20modern%2Dday%20Iran. Arch.vj (talk) 09:04, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Not in link. 5 million is recorded as the upper bound in the article.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 10:28, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mauryan empire was the largest empire in the Indian subcontinent, not British Raj or Mughal empire

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:02, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

mauryan empire was the largest in history

[edit]
the 3.4 million sq kms isnt a low estimate rather its from a different time period.

the article is heavily biased as even roman empire has three different areas but only the maximum extent is mentioned as it belongs to that certain time period — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.41.67.133 (talk) 12:54, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, 3.4 million km2 is an estimate of the peak size. See the cited source, in particular Table 4 on page 132 and Figure 1 on page 118. TompaDompa (talk) 13:35, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No it's not It clearly mentions for a brief moment king Asokha Had the full control over the so called autonomous regions Even if we consider it to be a few years It will still count As a full sized empire of 5 million sqs kilometers Bhima Palavīṉamāṉa (talk) 13:59, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The source you sited Doesn't mention anything about the peak extent It doesn't even mention The mauryan empire Please provide the accurate page/source with the exact line. Bhima Palavīṉamāṉa (talk) 14:01, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What are you talking about? We cite two different sources:

Both very clearly provide estimates for the Mauryan Empire's geographical extent—the former on page 223 and the latter on page 132. TompaDompa (talk) 16:56, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gupta empire

[edit]

I don't know why is this article so darn biased But Gupta empire s maximum extend Is 3.5 million sq km There is No lower or higher estimate for it It's the maximum extent And that's what it should be Lower estimates Are only applicable at the different time periods There is a 40 year difference Between The 3.5 and 1.7 million sq km reduction Please . Bhima Palavīṉamāṉa (talk) 16:04, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We cite two different sources:
They disagree about how big the Gupta Empire was at its greatest extent, and they disagree about when it reached its greatest extent. We present both, since both sources are WP:RELIABLE. TompaDompa (talk) 16:56, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
