Pistia
[edit]The species Pistia is listed as an invasive, and yet the article on it lists the species as native with fossil evidence going back thousands of years. This is quite contradictory & my attempt to remove this erroneous entry was reverted. Also see the USDA page: http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=PISTI 70.119.240.28 (talk) 08:37, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this up. It looks like your edit was reverted simply because it had no edit summary explaining the content removal, by someone who uses a tool to monitor such edits, rather than any factual dispute. Wikipedia articles themselves aren't reliable sources; I think Pistia#ecology exaggerates the claims of a recent review article. Based on reliable secondary sources, its status in Florida seems unknown. The PLANTS page cited is a bit cryptic, and the USDA provides a clearer explanation of Pistia stratiotes's controversial status here. The review article, while strongly suggestive of native status, stops short of making that claim, concluding that previous studies "provide a compelling basis of support for the hypothesis" that it's a native species.
- I'm going to add a second section in this list article, for plants of unknown origin. Agyle (talk) 12:02, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Rename article List of invasive species in Florida
[edit]Should we rename this article List of invasive species in Florida and include plant and animal sections or should we start another article called List of invasive animal species in Florida? I prefer to rename and broaden the article because this may improve search engine optimization and hits to the article. Waters.Justin (talk) 17:55, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Rewrite article
[edit]First off some joker has been adding nonsense to this page for months, fixing his mess could take hours.
Second this list mixes up FLEPPC's invasives with their potential invasives. It also copied their duplicate names.
Thirdly FLEPPC isn't an official group but a private organisation. Only some 20 or so plants on this list are actually officially invasive according to the state or federal government.
Lastly Hibiscus tiliaceus is likely native.
