VC-10

The link for VC-10 points to the vickers aircraft not a page about the squadron. Matt 17:57, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

This has been fixed. Lou Sander (talk) 15:18, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Using Naval Aviation News

Back issues of the magazine Naval Aviation News often have information about discontinued squadrons. Very often there is at least a blurb when the squadron is disestablished. There are very complete files of back issues online, but the trouble is finding the specific issue that has information about the squadron you are interested in. If you Google 'naval aviation news' and the name of the squadron you're looking for, you will often find a reference to the issue you're looking for. Usually it's just a mention in some sort of literature index, but it will tell you what issue your information is in. Then just Google "naval aviation news back issues", and look into the year and issue of interest. Sometimes you have to dig through the entire issue, but often what you are looking for will be in the "Airscoop" section. Lou Sander (talk) 19:43, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

DANAS - Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons

Many of the squadrons on this page are listed in the Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons. That article has been seriously updated, and its talk page now has easy-to-follow instructions for creating references to it. Lou Sander (talk) 15:15, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm trying to match what's in the "Attack Squadrons" section of this article with what's in the corresponding volume of DANAS. I'm using the "Notes" column to keep track of things. Lou Sander (talk) 18:52, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Sorry I didnt see your note here before, but as I have said elsewhere the article is not the place for notes. Happy to help add references to the DANAS entries to each of the entries with your guidance, do we have a standard format for DANAS references? MilborneOne (talk) 10:55, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

VFA-125

I've added this squadron to the list. Since many of my recent changes have been reverted without discussion here, I have a concern that this might happen again. If you want to revert this one, please discuss it here first. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Lou Sander (talk) 15:03, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Archived

I've archived some pre-2014 cruft. Lou Sander (talk) 17:29, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

References

Nice start with the VAK squadrons. There are typos in some of the references, though. If this reference scheme is continued for all the squadrons in DANAS, the References section will be 280 items long -- perhaps a bit unwieldy. There are better ways to do this, to which I have given a lot of thought and done a lot of work. I'm happy to discuss them, but whatever I propose tends to be rejected out of hand, and whatever I express through edits tends to be quickly reverted without discussion. Lou Sander (talk) 16:47, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Always open to ideas I was just following what is one of the norms for referencing as it allows others to follow the sources. MilborneOne (talk) 18:02, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

VF(AW)-3

VF(AW)-3 is an all-weather fighter squadron, not an attack squadron. Its article is improperly named VFAW-3, leading to confusion; I've left a note about this on its talk page. I moved its entry in this table to the end of the VF section. If somebody thinks this isn't its proper alphabetic position, feel free to move it elsewhere in the fighter squadrons list. Hello fellow Wikipedians,

Section names

All but a few of the sections in this article are named "Disestablished xxx Squadrons" or "Deactivated xxx Squadrons". I'm wondering about the few that have different names. Is there some reason for it, or is it just an oversight, or what? (The answer is beyond my layman's knowledge of the subject matter.) Lou Sander (talk) 01:14, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

It had to have been an oversight. I split the "Patrol Squadrons" section into "Deactivated VP" and "Disestablished VP" sections and moved the appropriate squadrons into the new "deactivated VP" section. Did the same with the "Other squadrons (VX, VO)" section. Added "Deactivated" to the "Rescue Squadrons (VH)" and "Cruiser Scouting Squadrons (VCS)" section titles.Navalaviator84 (talk) 07:26, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
