Clean Up List Tag

I added the clean up list tag because the values in the lists are just really weird. Children's animated and comedies are listed here for some reason. Also Hotel Transynvania is listed in the Dracula universe that talks of the original book. The data is just really bad, but I have no idea how to fix lists. dose Hotel Transylvania , Scooby-Doo , Monsters, Inc., Monsters vs. Aliens , The Mummy and Predator count Fanoflionking

Most of those are kids films, so can't really be horror films even if they have horror elements, I'd say Predator is a little more complex. If we find a soure that lists it among the top grossing horror films then I'd say we can add it.★Trekker (talk) 23:27, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Dr. Strange on the list?

Orphaned references in List of highest-grossing horror films

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of highest-grossing horror films's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Dracula?

Proposing its removal. “Dracula” is not a franchise, period, The fills listed do not take place in the same “universe” and are not connected in any way besides the use of the same public domain idea. While I agree that it's not a universe it is still basically the same character or slight variations of the character which can be put under the same banner. A similar thing is done with Batman and Spider-man for example, there are multiple different series but they all stand under one banner when talking about the franchises and their box office and such. They might be separated into multiple film series but they are all a joint franchise imo. That's just my take tho. I can understand your point of view since most Dracula films are quite disconnected. It’s not a franchise. Period. And this is a list of highest-grossing franchises. The options would be to retitle the list in a way that would include it, or remove it. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train

Why do people keep adding this film when it was clearly stated multiple times by the author that it is a dark fantasy and not a horror. It is also quite obvious that it is not horror but rather has elements of horror. Just like the series isn't a horror series but rather an action series so is the movie. "Scary Movie" franchise in the list of highest-grossing horror franchises

Non-horror on the list?

So I was looking at the first list and instantly noticed "I am Legend". I mean if the wiki page of the movie doesn't even list the genre the list is for, should it really be added here? With IMDb as source, it's an Action/Drama/Sci-Fi, with Wikipedia as source it's a "post-apocalyptic action thriller film". Even the source from Box Office Mojo calls it "Action Drama Sci-Fi Thriller". The novel is allegedly horror and I can't speak of that since I haven't read it, but after having seen the movie it's really not making it in to the horror section in my opinion. I also want to agree with the previous comment of "Scary Movie"s involvement on the list for the same reasons. Essentially my point is that just because ã movie has elements in it which can be conceived as horror, it doesn't automatically make it one. And if it's not listed on its own wiki page as one, the page about the movie should either add the genre or it should go off a list such as this. Thoughts? Dracula

As someone brought this up earlier, I don't think Dracula should be on the franchise and film series list. Dracula films are based on Bram Stoker's 1897 novel "Dracula", which entered in public domain in 1962. You cannot add sole adaptations of a public domain because that's not part of a authorized franchise. Only direct sequels can be added cause those constitute a "series", or films that have been released before the public domain date of 1962.DCF94 (talk) 11:04, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

i am asking the same question, the inclusion of hotel transylvania on this list is so absurd that i immediately came to the talk section to see if anyone else had objections. it and all "Dracula" derivatives should be removed for the same reasons cited in earlier posts: it's public domain and based off of a common character and trope, it is not a related franchise as the filmmakers of each film are not working together based on source material, but creating separate characters and lore for each individual work. The article has several issues. The "Franchise" section seems to be original research, unsourced material and more.

  • The "Highest-grossing horror film franchises and film series" section has a "Dracula" series, and proceeds to link to the article on the book. This article and the other makes no claims for a "Dracula" series or what is may or may not consist, and appears to go against WP:FORUM, "Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought", in short, we do not write about content that one could perceive as being related.
  • Other content clearly has reliable sources, states the gross of a film, but lacks other material to verify it on the list. For example, the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television is obviously a strong source for the 1930s Warner Bros. film gross. Simply stating the gross of Doctor X, does not indicate it was the highest grossing horror film of the year though, and the source does not even state the genres of any film. There's one titled Hatchet Man which we might as well apply if we are going by pulp-y sounding titles.
  • Other sources seem to be questionable at best. Outside WP:RS/IMDB being failed for IMDb, others like JP-BoxOffice, or FilmsRanked, appear to be self-published sources which, outside occasional exceptions, we do not use on Wikipedia. (see WP:SPS)

While the article is about the highest grossing horror films, I think we need to probably give more details to what is and what isn't valid for inclusion on the topic. Some material just may not be available to the public depending on the era of cinema it was involved in, or simply lost to time. Its time now to clean these up and balance them out for clarity.
