This list is not a list of the highest-grossing animated films of the year as it does not include reissues of Disney films which outgrossed those listed. Does the list need to be clearer that it is only films that were made that year that are included or should it include reissues or perhaps separately note the higher-grossing reissues?
For instance, the following films had reissues where the US gross exceeds that listed for a year/for the top 20:
1980 Lady and the Tramp $27 million
1981 Cinderella $28 million
1982 Bambi $23 million; Peter Pan $17 million; Fantasia about $16 million; Robin Hood around $15 million
1983 Snow White $30 million; The Rescuers $21 million
1984 Jungle Book $26 million; Pinocchio $26 million (although most probably in 1985 as released at Xmas)
1985 101 Dalmatians $33 million
1986 Lady and the Tramp $31 million; Sleeping Beauty $15 million
1987 Snow White $47 million; Cinderella $34 million; Aristocats $17 million
1988 Bambi $39 million
1989 Peter Pan $29 million; The Rescuers $22 million
Looking at totals, this roughly equates to:
Snow White $77 million
Cinderella $62 million
Bambi $62 million
Lady and the Tramp $58 million
Peter Pan $46 million
The Rescuers $43 million
101 Dalmatians $33 million
Fantasia about $30 million
Jungle Book $26 million
Pinocchio $26 million
Aristocats $17 million
Sleeping Beauty $15 million
Robin Hood around $15 million Sudiani (talk) 20:48, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is generally understood that "animated films of the 1980s" means animated films whose initial release was in the 1980s. That being said, the list doesn't do that particularly well either. Honestly, I don't think there is any way to fix this list because we simply don't have the sources we would need.
