Considering bringing this to AfD

[edit]

Per concerns raised at Talk:List of soft rock musicians and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rock music#Two questionable artist lists. Thoughts? Tarc (talk) 16:55, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly believe this one is the more questionable of the two (I have not looked at the soft rock one as much, and I am unfamiliar with many of the bands on it), but I am unsure whether the problems with this article need to be dealt with at AFD. The main problem I see at present is that it takes an outdated and overly broad definition of "hard rock" and includes many extreme heavy metal bands which are not sourced as "hard rock" and could not possibly be sourced as that. If it was trimmed down it would possibly be an article more in-line with the others in Category:Lists of rock musicians by subgenre, and while other crap exists might not be a great rationale for keeping this article it would appear to bit perverse not to have a list about "hard rock" when we have a list about "mathcore" and "baroque pop" and so on. My main concern has been the broadness, though. I'm fine with the sub-genre listings as those are specific and well-defined, but "hard rock" is just too all-encompassing IMO to be a feasible list. Tarc (talk) 19:04, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Metal is not Hard Rock!

[edit]

Who on earth put so many Metal bands in here? Burzum, Behemoth and Carcass = Hard Rock???? This has got to be the most fallacious Wikipedia page in existence. Someone fucked this page up so badly there are too many non-Hard Rock bands for anyone to be bothered removing.

"but metal came from hard rock"... No. It came from Psychedelic Rock. Hard Rock is more of Metal's 'brother'. Even if Metal did come from Hard Rock, that does not mean Metal bands = Hard Rock bands. Especially extreme Metal bands. Cradle of Filth = Hard Rock?? Most Metal bands, especially extreme metal (black, death, gothic etc) have NOTHING to do with Hard Rock.
