In our Asian Studies class we briefly went over that, after the Japanese seemed to take the lead in Asian pride and independence by kicking Russia out of Korea and Manchuria, Japan became a center for foreign students coming to study everything from politics to economics and government. A couple of names that jumped out at me was Chiang Kai Shek, who actually served a tour in the Imperial Japanese Army, of all things(I think in artillery?). I wonder how Chinese Nationalists serve in the Imperial Japanese Army back even before WW1?
And, though I can't remember it now, the name of a future communist leader even too.
I only see Japanese names in my brief glance here. I know Chiang Kai Shek attended here, it was in our course, not just Wikipedia bio.
I wonder of there is a list of future-famous non-Japanese Asians that attended such schools in Japan before ww2?
