 | Ascents which are the first at a given grade for a country, but not for the world, will be removed (the article converts grading systems between countries to get the global consensus first). Ascents whose attribution is linked to blogs, unverified personal opinions, and low-grade sources will be removed. Multiple ascents—but no more than four—will be kept for the very highest grades, and particularly bouldering grades, as the consensus on a grade can change materially over time, and thus the ascent which was the first (or second) can change (a lot). Use is made in this article of important articles/databases that seek to establish a definitive list of firsts, and while they are not perfect (because grade consensus changes), strong deviations from these sources must be strongly verified. |

9a onsights/flashes
[edit]There has been another 9a onsight by Megos in 2017 (TCT in Italy) and a 9a flash also by him in 2021 ( Intermezzo XY gelöst)… TCT has also been onsighted by Ondra… 2A02:3033:680:6A50:8B7:1E48:4CC3:13BB (talk) 20:35, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
First ever vs. notable
[edit]There are entries below circa 7a on several lists where I don't think the entry is the "first" or "second" ascent at that grade. They maybe notable ascents at the time, but they don't meet the criteria set out in the lists. These should be removed imho or otherwise they give the impression that they were "firsts"? 95.45.158.57 (talk) 22:37, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have only entered events that, after some research, appear quite likely to be not only local, but worldwide firsts. Sometimes I have been wrong. I have always referenced my entries. For example, in the case of Wide Country in 1973, I listed four highly-reliable references.
- To improve this site for events that obviously happened but are less well-known, I propose using semantic differential qualifiers such as "probable first-ever lead at 6b+" or "possible...". Perhaps even more NPOV would be "first known" ?? I am open to other ideas. Jimclimber (talk) 16:01, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
