Other people that could be added to the list
[edit]The following list of other notables originated from the official Footlights web-site (which seems to have gone, surprisingly) about 8 years ago. As well as being members of the Footlights, they held official positions in the committee hierarchy, e.g. "Without Portfolio" and "Falconer" (I don't know, either!). Whether they are 'notable' enough is, of course, open to debate!
FREDERIC RAPHAEL - Screenwriter, Novelist & Journalist.
PETER WOODS - News-reader on the BBC. Occasionally appeared as himself in some comedy programs in a self-deprecating manner.
BOB WELLINGS - Presenter on BBC magazine programs (e.g. "Nationwide").
JOE MELIA - Film & television Actor.
CLIVE SWIFT - Actor, (e.g. Mr Bucket on BBC's sit-com "Keeping Up Appearances").
JULIE COVINGTON - Actress (e.g. "Rock Follies") and singer ("Don't Cry for me Argentina").
GEORGE MELLY - Raconteur & Jazz singer. I don't think he was a student at the time. If he was, it must have been as a 'Mature Post-Graduate', or something like that.
BILL CASHMORE - Actor, Playwright & Director.
TIM FIRTH - Screenwriter, Dramatist & Songwriter.
Although currently credited as "Hugh Dennis", he was known by his real name in the Footlights, which was (or is) "Peter Dennis".
The list also quotes "Robert Buckman" as "Comedian, writer, television presenter, columnist, physician". I believe this is the same bloke that had a comedy series called "The Pink Medicine Show" with another actor/doctor called Chris Beetles. If so, then he was credited as ROBIN Buckman, not Robert. It is likely that the name was changed for professional reasons.
