Talk:List of desiccants

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list includes a number of substances which, while capable or removing water, are not usually used for that purpose, mainly because they are - too dangerous (hydrides) - too expensive (hydrides, alkali metals & alloys) The definition of desiccants referred to lists usual desiccants only. I remove the clearly out-of-place material. PS : all three external links are useless or broken. --Environnement2100 (talk) 19:20, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chemists call many of those you removed "desiccants" too. Phosphorus pentoxide is often used in desiccators and in gas drying columns. Solvents are distilled from calcium hydride, sodium, potassium, sodium-potassium alloy, sodium-benzophenone. Magnesium is used to dry methanol. Sulfuric acid is used in a Drechsler bottle for drying gases at low pressure. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 19:51, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The the education center link is obsolete. It looks like the chemical company it belonged to may have been bought out by a different company. --Cosmicaug (talk) 21:00, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

does not look much like a wikipedia list article

[edit]

can someone put the list into a table, maybe with other columns with notes and different ways of measuring efficiency? Bumpf (talk) 14:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[insert witty text on wikipedia signatures][reply]
