Emmarentia Dam

[edit]

Can anyone find data for this Dam? Flagman (talk) 10:44, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate decimal points

[edit]

The usage of Decimal separators in the table is inconsistent, i.e. for the Vaal dam it uses "." for digit grouping (2.609.799) in the volume column while using the same "." as a decimal seperator in the area column (322.755). This will lead to a huge amount of confusion. --NJR_ZA (talk) 08:13, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Factual accuracy

[edit]

Doing some sanity checks. Will motivate my addition of the Factual accuracy template shortly --NJR_ZA (talk) 12:54, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Working off this version, I calculate the depth of the dams (from the states capacity and areas) as:
  • Gariep - 15.17 Metre Green tickY, passes sanity check
  • Alphen - 7 Millimetre Red XN, fails sanity check
  • Ceres Koekedouw - 160 Millimetre ... possible, but unlikely
  • Rietspruit - 63 µm Red XN, fails sanity check
  • Dap Naude - 6 Millimetre Red XN, fails sanity check

There are many more, but I don't have the time to list them all here now. --NJR_ZA (talk) 13:29, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The origional contributor is currently busy cleaning up the factual inaccuracies. I will remove the {{Disputed}} template once that is done. --NJR_ZA (talk) 13:45, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sortable Table

[edit]

You folks are doing a magnificent job on this article.

I have a request though - can you ensure that the sortable table feature works ? For example, I want to click at the top of the 'capacity' column and see all dams listed by capacity. The column sort is 'smart' (read- dumb :) and it tries to decide if the column is numeric - if it is not, it sorts alphabetically (which is what is happening now on 'capacity'). I think the commas are confusing it - or the mixture of comma and period (I thought commas worked, but perhaps only if there is nothing else confusing it in the column). Maybe it is the convert macro. You guys are so busy I don't want to step in, but if it quietens down I might take a crack at it if you have not already.

OK - I fiddled a bit. The problem is the refs. I think convert is a killer too. To be numeric, it must be (I think) numbers, comma, period only in the column. See this. My suggestion:- Move the refs to the 'Name' column, and list only km2. Wizzy 14:09, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, magnificent work by User:Vdiest
Refs and stuff after the number should not affect sorting. See Help:Sorting. The {{convert}} template does however seem to confuse it. I agree with your suggestion above: remove it and only list km2. I can remove the convert quickly with a regex. --NJR_ZA (talk) 14:29, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, seems that just about anything confuses the js sorting. I have move all the refs to a separate column and removed the {{convert}} template. --NJR_ZA (talk) 15:57, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rename proposal
