Requested move 4 April 2020

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: I see a ROUGHCONSENSUS to move, but that does not require a change of scope or preclude a separate list on former places of worship. Hassocks5489 is welcome to mainspace their draft to List of former places of worship on the Isle of Wight. buidhe 03:15, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of current places of worship on the Isle of WightList of places of worship on the Isle of Wight – Propose expanding article to cover notable former places of worship, too, consistent with general usage of lists of churches, and consistent with general avoidance of restriction of lists to "current" items. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of electric cars currently available is a recent AFD where the "currently available" term was harshly criticized, and the consensus was that the article should be moved at least. All examples in Category:Lists of churches in England provide for coverage of former churches; the near-exception is List of current places of worship in Wealden but that is matched by List of former places of worship in Wealden. There is no separate List of former places of worship on the Isle of Wight; I surmise that, as for all other English church lists, former ones can be covered in a section of their own or mixed in with the current churches. Oppose: I'm currently creating List of former places of worship on the Isle of Wight in a sandbox; it is about 90% complete. The list would be too long if former places of worship were integrated into it (the sandbox is currently >90Kb and has nearly 200 references). Please can I ask that this move does not take place. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 18:16, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes if that is created that would make this request moot. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:20, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As noted above, the combined list would be far too large: it would exceed template limits and be unmanageable. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 08:10, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have tested how large it would be if I combined both. With some still left to write and some refs to add, there would be 634 references and the size would be over 322Kb. Wikipedia:Article size seems to support the natural split. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 08:58, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move but not merge. A list of places of worship inherently presumes that the places listed will be current, not extinct. I see no problem with having one "list of places" and one "list of former places", with clarification in the lede. BD2412 T 19:24, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
