Title
[edit]The title of this page is wrong. There is no longer any such honorific as Governor of India. All the people listed here are actually Governors of States which together make the Indian Federation. The only Indian to whom the title Governor of India applies is C Rajagopalachari. The page should have been titled Heads of Territories in the Indian Union or something to that effect. --Shahab 20:23, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

cross pollination
[edit]Many of the states seem to have a governor who was born, or started his or her career in another state. Especially a lot of north-south cross pollination. Is there a telling reason why this is so? (Ofcourse I would imagine this would never happen with the chief ministers.)
Andhra: Tiwari, Chhatisgarh: Narasimhan, Gujarat: Sharma, Karnataka: Thakur, Maharashtra: Jamir, Nagaland: Sankaranarayanan, Tamil Nadu: Barnala, so on and so forth.. --ti 17:07, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- In India it's a norm that the governors/lieutenant governors and administrators of a particular state/union territory are appointed from a different state. The same norm is followed in the appointment of chief justices to the various high courts in India. This is done to ensure that there is no conflict of interest between the governors and the state governments as it could arise in the case of governors and chief ministers of a state hailing from the same state. This is done to limit the bias and influence of governors on state governments and to ensure the neutrality of governors.

- Governors of Sikkim and Meghalaya have not been sworn in yet, so they cannot be changed. The Governor of Haryana was supposed to be sworn in today, but there has been no news about it. Governor of Tripura has been changed as he was sworn in today. —Gazoth (talk) 13:23, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Proposed change in the title
[edit]I do propose a change in the title of this article from List of current Indian governors to the List of current Indian governors, lieutenant governors and administrators, as this article lists not just the current governors of Indian states but also the current lieutenant governors and administrators of Indian union territories too.
Hemant DabralTalk 12:11, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Oppose that's unnecessary detail. List of United States governors has D.C.'s mayor and List of current Canadian first ministers also has the PM and territorial premiers. Unless there is consensus in this discussion to move the page, please restore the original title of the article; this change was made without discussion to an article that has featured list status.—indopug (talk) 14:02, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
