Hindu only crematorium in West Yorkshire yet?

[edit]

I recall reading in a national newspaper (Times or Daily Telegraph) back in late 1990s or 'noughties' that the Hindu community was seeking council permission to build a crematorium solely for Hindus in the Bradford area. Did anything come of it?Cloptonson (talk) 17:49, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wallingford Crematorium

[edit]

There is no such place as 'Wallingford Crematorium'. Perhaps the author is referring to the South Oxfordshire Crematorium and Memorial Park ([1] ) run by Memororia at Garford which is one of the three crematoria for humans in Oxfordshire in addition to the other two already mentioned in the article (Oxford and Banbury). I have adjusted the entry accordingly. Thank you.Cloptonson (talk) 20:22, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is still not correct. Garfield is nowhere near Wallingford. Please see Memoria's website to see the address. This crematorium is between Wantage and Abingdon on the A338. We might as well have it correct. The wiki used with mobile phones still has it all wrong. Thanks. Longfinal (talk) 19:56, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have now fixed it. Longfinal (talk) 21:29, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Amber Valley Crematorium

[edit]

This crematorium is described as being near Matlock. It is miles away from Matlock. Please see the website: https://www.ambervalleymemorial.co.uk/contact-amber-valley-crematorium/find-us/ ~~ Longfinal (talk) 14:12, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As Swanwick is given as its postal address village, as per https://www.ambervalleymemorial.co.uk/about-amber-valley-crematorium/ I will put it as Swanwick.Cloptonson (talk) 19:31, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

'Headington' Crematorium

[edit]

I would suggest the title is incorrect. It is located in the Headington area of Oxford. Since I have lived around here, it has always been called 'Oxford Crematorium'. Please see Dignity's website for Oxford Crematorium: https://www.dignityfunerals.co.uk/crematoria-and-cemeteries/crematoria/find-a-crematorium/oxford-crematorium/ Thanks ~~ Longfinal (talk) 14:16, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have it on the head yourself. This crematorium is formally known as Oxford Crematorium. You say yourself that 'Headington Crematorium' is the alternative title. Why are you using the alternative title? The present owner of the site uses 'Oxford Crmatorium' as the title and that is how it is also known everywhere (hence its formal title?) - even if the location is and postal address mentions Headington. I have seen it on cremain documentation when burying ashes locally. To have the alternative title mentioned in an autobiography, I would suggest, is hardly the appropriate criterium to use the Headington title. If someone is hunting for this crematorium in wiki, to not be able to find it under its formal (official) name is a serious shortcoming, even more so as Oxfordshire now has several crematoria. Apologies as you have fixed it. Please ignore above. Longfinal (talk) 15:30, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So frequently crematoria are often named by their localities, followed by the name of the nearest town. Oxford Crematorium may be its formal name but it has been alternatively referred to as Headington Crematorium, for example in a biography of Joy Davidman (Mrs CS Lewis) who was cremated and has a memorial there. My suggestion is give the formal name, followed by the locality details, which I have done for this one.Cloptonson (talk)
