County area rework
[edit]I noted a significant discrepancy in the areas of Utah counties; this page differs in every instance from the data in each county's wikipage. However, the county wikipages do not agree at all with data from either the US Census gazeteer page (http://www.census.gov/geo/www/gazetteer/files/Gaz_counties_49.txt) or the listing in the National Association of Counties (for Utah). The NAC data agree precisely with the census data, as long as you realize that in every case the total is rounded DOWN to the nearest whole number. I am going to re-work the data on this wikipage, and then re-work each county's wikipage, using the census data area. It hurts me to say this (since I am so used to rounding up when = or greater than 0.5), but I will round the census values down to the integer, in order to be in strict accord with the NAC values. Any comments or rebuttals???--Spray787 (talk) 19:16, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
- We go by what the U.S. Government says, not what National Association of Counties (NAC) says. If the NAC uses wrong methodology, that doesn't mean we use wrong methodology. Also, don't make trivial changes such as white space. It is considered bad form to change an articles formatting. Other changes such as adding abbreviations instead of spelling it out first (ie EPA) or changing what the exact source says (ie co. to company) is also bad form. I noticed some arthritic errors, I'll correct those... that is if I don't make more as the table can be confusing to look at. 20:30, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
- Ahh, the census has updated the numbers in the past year. That explains somethings. Bgwhite (talk) 20:34, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

County abbreviations on the map
[edit]What is the source for the county abbreviations? They don't match the 2-letter license-plate county stickers that were used before 2003. Also, Daggett and Davis have the same 2-letter code (DA) on the map right now. Is there a reason the counties aren't spelled out? If not, is there a way to do that? I feel like that would make more sense than what is currently shown. Roadguy2 (talk) 15:34, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
