All mines closed, or just "deep" mines?
[edit]We had two sections, "Deep mines in production" and "Closed mines". Since all deep mines are now closed, I combined them in to the "Closed mines" sections. But is that correct? In particular, the Monument Pit is apparently not a "deep mine" and may still be in production. Kendall-K1 (talk) 18:50, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Incomplete/complete designation
[edit]All the mines listed by the Coal Authority as existing mines are either on this list as operating or closed in 2020 (or before). Their list does not seem to include freeminers or other very small sites. Given this, the list of operating mines (although not those that closed recently) may be complete except for freeminers. This is to be confirmed and/or refuted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.224.74.21 (talk) 01:28, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Not sure where you found that list with the names of the mines but current manpower and license statistics (Dec. 2023) show 4 mines in England with a combined manpower of 21 as well as the underground mine in Wales (Aberpergwm) with 200 and the surface mine in Wales (Ffos-y-fran) with 121 but that mine has since closed they just haven't updated it.
- Not sure what those 4 English mines are or whether they really operate or the Coal Authority just haven't crossed them off. 99.225.143.94 (talk) 03:30, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Also, the production statistics referred to in the Wiki article shows a surface mine production for Dec. and January 400 and 700 tonnes respectively, so that English surface mine may be operating after all. 99.225.143.94 (talk) 03:34, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- sorry: 0 for December and 810 tonnes for January for the English surface mine... 99.225.143.94 (talk) 03:36, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
