Classic texts? Or classical texts?
[edit]This list is full of classical texts or authors of classical texts, but not all of them are classics; some, it could be argued, are barely known! I would like to suggest that this article’s title be changed to “Japanese classical texts” or “Classical Japanese texts,” and further that a corresponding subcategory be created under Category:Japanese literature for categorizing articles on Japanese classical text. Further, (or as an alternative) subcategories should (also) be created for each language or literary period. Any thoughts? Jim_Lockhart 12:47, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- I am not the list compiler, but I think it most certainly should be classical texts, ie anything up to the Meiji Restoration. That said, the list is extremely poor at present. I previously created Category:Old Japanese texts in the hope of listing only texts of the Nara period. However, apparently that was not clear as much later works have been added. That will need to be fixed later. I support subcategorizing it by linguistic period. I see that you have just created Category:Late Old Japanese texts which seems appropriate. Will you also be creating Category:Early Middle Japanese, Category:Late Middle Japanese, and Category:Early Modern Japanese as well? (Nara and Heian period Japanese are my passion, but I plan on creating articles for Early Middle Japanese, Late Middle Japanese, and Early Modern Japanese when time permits.) - I created the remaining categories. Bendono 14:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Notification of draft with table formatting
[edit]There is version of this list organized as a table (and likely other modifications) at User:Bendono/Sandbox2. It hasn't been edited lately, and I thought it might be helpful to editors here. Daask (talk) 07:10, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
