Please do not mix several statistics sources for the same country!

[edit]

As noted in the page text, this page uses data provided by the official leading governmental body responsible for national statistics. There might be other sources, also from legitimate governmental institutions, that provide different population numbers. The methodologies differ and therefore the data might be off significantly. Please consider using the current data sources - the official governmental bodies responsible for statistics - for each country.

To give an example of what might happen if we use various sources even for the same country: State Data Agency of Lithuania gives Vilnius' population at ~590k, while Center of Registers gives ~625k, and the Territorial Health Fund of Lithuania gives ~720k. Center of Registers comes up with their number from the number of citizens with a address registered in a municipality, while the health fund uses the number of people registered with the regional health insurance facility.
