Start

[edit]

Onamatopeia started this page as part of his project to improve the Wilt Chamberlain article. This is great I can't wait to see what he does with the article considering his work on Bill Russell. Quadzilla99 10:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the record, essentially all of this content came from the Wilt Chamberlain article prior to Onomatopoeia's recent updates. Myasuda 12:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Records

[edit]

I've begun the process of systematically adding Chamberlain's records to this article in a list format, somewhat more line with the format at Career achievements of Michael Jordan which I've recently cleaned up following some bad edits. I find the list format a bit easier to scan for information. I plan to add some annotating information back as I go (e.g., in some cases I'll provide the next entry on the list if it helps add context). Expect to see a few rough edges for a bit . . . I'll have it cleaned up shortly, however. Myasuda 04:34, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty much done with this round of edits. My edit activity on this article will proceed at a more reduced pace for the foreseeable future. If you have issues with the format, please bring it up here on this page. Myasuda 19:13, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other selected rebound facts

[edit]

Regarding Ogp's cite tag for the Hairston / Chamberlain factoid, it's certainly a legitimate request. Although it's a true statement, I (unfortunately) can't find an on-line link that supports it. I first encountered this somewhat surprising fact in an old Basketball Digest trivia quiz . . . but I've lost that particular issue many years ago. I have, however, tracked this particular stat in the years after that Basketball Digest issue came out and no other one-team tandem has matched it. Yeah, I am familiar with WP:NOR, but this type of tracking can be backed up by citing the Basketball Digest issue (if I could locate it) plus a brief consultation with [1] for the subsequent seasons (in which 1,000+ rebounders are relatively uncommon). In other words, to validate the statement only requires one to perform a handful of queries and cross-referencing -- well below the threshold of effort of what I would ordinarily construe as "research". Article name and content

[edit]

Although it was originally started as a catalog of Wilt Chamberlain's career achievements, this article almost immediately became a repository for material pulled out of the oversized Wilt Chamberlain article: [2]. As such, the article name is somewhat misleading with respect to its content. Not only is it considerably more than just a list, but most readers would probably also not expect the sections of "Chamberlain-Russell rivalry" and "Reputation" to be found in an article on Chamberlain's career achievements (so I don't think simply reverting to the article's original name [3] is an adequate solution).

Is there a better name that can be given to this article? Or should the non-list material be moved elsewhere, such as back to the Wilt Chamberlain article? Can a new article be created from at least some of the non-list material? Perhaps a combination of these proposals? Or are other editors content with the status quo? — Myasuda (talk) 11:15, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is a book, The rivalry : Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and the golden age of basketball, on the rivaly with Russell. That topic Russell–Chamberlain rivalry should easily be a standalone article. The main bio should have a neutral writeup on Chamberlain's legacy including the classic knock that he was not a team player and was not Russell, but his individual skills surpassed everyone. The bio has lots of details on individual season, but lacks critical discussion on his legacy. Wilt_Chamberlain#Legacy currently is just a list in prose, with no/minimal analysis. IMO this article should be primarily a list with text diffused into other articles.—Bagumba (talk) 02:35, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with these comments and support this proposal. — Myasuda (talk) 02:11, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and move the sections under discussion back to the Wilt Chamberlain article. See Talk:Wilt Chamberlain#Material contained in the .22List of career achievements by Wilt Chamberlain.22 article for more information. — Myasuda (talk) 22:22, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
