Ordering of list

[edit]

What is the ordering of this list intended to represent? At present it's dominated by BT, granted that as a parent company they are probably the largest but since this article is strictly about broadband providers

I suggest it should be ordered by number of subscribers or (better) alphabetical. MarkMLl (talk) 08:50, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Point Topic (www.point-topic.com) has Q2 2012 UK ISP market share figures showing the top 4 as (alphabetic order): BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Virgin Media

See http://point-topic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Point-Topic-Mapping-Broadband-In-The-UK-Q2-2012.pdf

The list of external links has a few 'comparison sites' which I feel have no place on this list, as they are (a) not providers, and (b) probably limiting their lists only to those paying commission.

I can only recommend ThinkBroadband.com (formerly ADSLguide.org.uk) for a more complete list of ISPs, however, I'm not sure how up-to-date their information is, because they rely on the ISPs.

ISPreview.co.uk has a list of UK ISPs, but I am unsure whether they update the lists themselves (index at http://www.ispreview.co.uk/list.shtml ) and whether they get commission (but they certainly have alphabetic lists without attempting to offer a 'search for best deal for you' type facility which 'comparison' (commission) sites tend to do.

If comparison sites are allowed to be listed, I'd really prefer there to be some priority ordering or separation from ISPs themselves (eg BT, Eclipse, Plus.Net, etc) and shown as "commission funded ISP listing services". I really don't care whether some site is "accredited by Ofcom" - if it makes money out of a user clicking a link to an ISP, and it's not an actual broadband provider, I'd be tempted to remove it completely along with others promoting themselves for money... If you don't make it clear they are not welcome there could be a dozen more turn up until finding an actual ISP in the external links list is like a needle in a haystack!

Also, please note Sky Broadband is apparently buying O2/BE Unlimited from Telefonica.

( The Telephone Cooperative ) ( The Post Office ) + the other - CHEAPER - broadband providers - ?

[edit]

I was about to change broadband + phone provider and wanted to check the list - and I am sure that it is much longer than given.

http://www.thephone.coop/home/

Present kinds of deal in mid 2015 - six months at half price for a line rental cheaper than the main providers, and substantial discounts for annual pre-payment, linked mobile deals - oh **** - I just took out a mobile contract ... ah ! - they also recycle phones ! ... Fed of not being able to talk to those running your phone company ? ... If you are a member of the Phone Coop you can go to the half-yearly general meeting and they just can not put you on hold - nor cut you off ! ( the next one is 04/07/15 )

totting their prices up, they are very similar to the other reliable cheaper provider -

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/broadband-mobile

Present kinds of deal in mid 2015 - twelve months half price for comparable line rental to the main providers, possibly the cheapest " essential " broadband deal at the moment, one of the cheapest line rentals ?

Does this look like advertising ? NOT COMPARED TO THE FRONT PAGE - WHICH APPEARS TO BE TAKEN FROM JUNK EMAILS :-) THIS WAS JUST 5 MINS RESEARCH :-( DaiSaw (talk) 00:49, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should *every* ISP that operates in the UK be added the list

[edit]

I came to this page looking for a long list of every ISP, and only saw around 5, so should *every* isp the operates in the UK be added to the list, even the lesser-known ones? LuckyMiner01 (talk) 21:37, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
