Adele's 21 -- Far From The UK's 2nd Best Selling Album
[edit]Adele's '21' is not the UK's Best Selling Album. It is still on 17 Platinum Awards, which means, that it has sold more than 5,100,000, but less than 5,400,000. It got its 17th Platinum Award on Friday 24th August 2018. Since then it has Charted for only 29 Weeks, with just one of them in the Top 40. As a contrast, 'ABBA Gold' got its 19th UK Platinum Award on Monday 10th August 2020. That was for UK Sales of 5,700.000. You still have it on 18 Platinum Awards, which is totally wrong. Since it got its 19th Platinum Award, 'Gold' has been in the UK Charts. Mostly in the Top 40. It is 100% impossible for '21' to now be placed 2nd, in the List of the UK's Best Selling Albums. It cannot possibly have suddenly gained the several 100,000 UK Sales, to put it above 'ABBA Gold'. You also have The Beatles 'Sgt Pepper on too low Platinum Awards. You still have it on 17. It got an 18th Platinum Award, on the same day as 'ABBA Gold'. That 1967 Beatles Album, is the UK's 3rd Best Selling 'All Time' Album. '21' by Adele, is still in 4th place, in that List. Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' got a 14th Platinum Award, on the same day. You still have it on 13. Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' got an 11th UK Platinum Award, on the same day - Monday 10th August. You still have it on 11. 'Tracy Chapman', by Tracy Chapman, got a 9th Platinum Award on that same day. You still have it on 8. The UK's Best Selling Album, by Queen - 'Greatest Hits' - got its 22nd UK Platinum Award on that same day - Monday 10th August 2020. You still have it on 21. The truth is, that your 'UK's Best Selling Albums' List, is a mess, and full of inaccuracies. Until it is tidied up, it can no longer be taken seriously. Certainly not to be used as a reference.81.103.92.196 (talk) 17:28, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
The article about Adele
1. Does NOT say 6m sales. Just close to...which is sloppy. Likely several hundred thousand from 6m
2. In the article NO REFERENCE TO "21" becoming 2nd best seller or sales of Gold or Sgt Pepper. Assumption it is 2nd best seller. NOT FACT Coachtripfan (talk) 21:38, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- I have reverted the article to its last stable version, with 21 being at number four on the list. I agree that there would probably have been a lot more coverage if it were now the second best-selling album ever, so I think we can assume that it isn't. As for the certifications issue, that column in the table has never claimed to contain the most recent certifications for each album. In fact, note e states that the certifications are only correct as of when they were last updated, in December 2018. I'll go through and update the certifications for each album whenever I next have the time, but, if anyone else would like to do it sooner than that, they would be more than welcome to. The OCC claim this week (21 May 2021) that GOLD is the 2nd best seller of All Time

Adele sales ...corrected by Official Charts Company
[edit]The OCC has corrected the figure for 21 to 5.2m sales.
That is in the link you provide https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/artists-who-beat-the-second-album-slump__19500/
Please correct in Wikipedia too Coachtripfan (talk) 12:43, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Is this right?
[edit]"Sales rounded to the nearest 100 where available; a more precise figure is given in the reference."
Firstly, should 100 be 1000, but secondly, is this sentence actually supposed to read:
"Sales rounded to the nearest 100; where available, a more precise figure is given in the reference."

The list has 61 Albums
[edit]The list has 61 entries, shouldn't it be 60, 70, 75 or something like that? as 61 is an unusual number for a list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TriPiece (talk • contribs) 20:41, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- @TriPiec: No particular opinion about having 61 albums. But I removed REM's album (ranked at 61), because don't have references, per WP:BURDEN. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 20:45, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Automatic For The People is missing
[edit]As the article says “sales, where shown are from the reference given, which may be at a different date, and cannot infer changes in position” Automatic For The People appears in the original list, however it doesn’t appear on the article. 82.26.167.230 (talk) 18:59, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, now re-added. A Thousand Doors (talk | contribs) 18:46, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
Definitely Maybe
[edit]There have been a number of reversions recently regarding whether or not Definitely Maybe should be included in this list. This seems to based on how the album has been awarded 8× Platinum status by the BPI, representing 2.4 million sales. For the last few years, the source of truth for this article has been the OCC's "Best-selling albums of all time", but that page is clearly a few years out of date, as there are several albums that we would expect to see in it that aren't (e.g. Divide by Ed Sheeran, Christmas by Michael Bublé, In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith). If the Wikipedia community decides that this article needs to be overhauled completely to reflect the BPI's certifications instead of the OCC's list, then I'll go with the consensus. But, in any case, Definitely Maybe wouldn't be one of the 60 best-selling albums in the UK (the three albums I just listed are all certified Platinum at least nine times over, which would push it off the table), so I'm removing it from the list again. Thanks, A Thousand Doors (talk | contribs) 19:36, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
No it is not OK to remove it as it is has passed 2.4 m sales on a reliable source not from some Mickley mouse article. when other albums on the list have sold less. I want it reinstated please 92.251.163.164 (talk) 00:32, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- Then you need to seek consensus that the list uses up to date certifications (which include streaming btw) as clearly explained above. Still not guaranteed it will make the list though, as it won't be the only 'new entry'. Btljs (talk) 14:08, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
The so called bible of a list is 6 years old so figures are way out Definitely maybe along with MG and the singles collection Time Flies have been in the charts nearly continuously since 2018, they are getting up there MG is going over 5m sales in the next week or two, BPI Certs are far more reliable 89.204.183.102 (talk) 01:41, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
