Article name
[edit]This article name is wrong - it implies royal honours like a knighthood. This is really an overgrown "References to Judy Garland in pop culture" section, and should be deleted. Garrie 06:58, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
"Honors" Name Change
[edit]Perhaps the word "Honors" implies something along the lines of MBE/OBE Dame etc - but that association would be mostly related to UK/British users who associate the word "Honours" with such protocol - but to the wider world Honors simply means "Honors". However I agree that a more appropriate tilte such as Recognition/Awards/Accomplishments may be more appropriate. I do not agree that the section or page should be deleted as this is very useful and valuable information that can assist serious researchers or simply people who want a broad background of the individual beyond the commonly known facts. This information is entirely appropriate, particularly for a celebrity of such ongoing fame or popularity - it demonstrates clearly why she she is so popular (nearly 40 years after her death) and enhances the article. It is an excellent example of what an article about an "Icon" should include. Too many articles simply provide the most basic of details which does not demonstrate why the person was famous or what they have accomplished - it is this type of additional information that sets wikipedia apart from other reference sources and exactly what makes it so popular. If people simply want the details of an individual they may as well just go to Britanica. Of course the downside is that information can be added willy-nilly that may not be very useful - but that risk exists with every article and is managed through wikipedia's ability to oversee entries and maintain integrity quickly through its many dedicated users. It's a list
[edit]See for instance List of 50 Cent awards. It's a mixture of prose and tables. This is a list of the various awards, with prose descriptors. If you want to stick bullet points next to them, fine, but even without them it's a list. Otto4711 (talk) 23:42, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, but your own example undermines your argument. List of 50 Cent awards is a set of lists in tables with very brief prose introductions, as per Wikipedia:LISTS#Lead_section_or_paragraph. The ratio of list to prose content is probably 10:1. In contrast, this article had no true lists until yesterday, when you created one true list (Grammies). The other bullets you added in front of the existing prose did not shorten the prose to make it truly a list -- sentences and paragraphs with bullets in front of them do not a list make. Look at List of 50 Cent awards again more carefully, and you'll see where this needs to go. See also: Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists) and Wikipedia:LISTS.
- Please stop removing the tag while work is still needed; it is not a personal insult, and is instead meant to invite editors who have the time to help reformat the article appropriately. --Melty girl (talk) 22:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- The article is formatted just fine. I have no idea what your problem is with it or why you're so adamantly refusing to believe that the list is a list. Since the article does not require reformatting, I have removed the tag. Please do not start an edit war by re-adding it until such time as this issue is resolved. Thank you. Otto4711 (talk) 22:11, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, I did not add anything to the Grammy section yesterday. It's been that way for weeks. The notion that the items on a list may not have explanatory text is fairly ridiculous. Look at the many lists of television series episodes that include brief plot synopses; are you suggesting that the plot synopses have to be removed because the prose makes it too un-listlike? Nonsense. Otto4711 (talk) 22:17, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- Clearly, I can't prevent you from taking this personally, and I can't make you engage with what I'm saying as per WP guidelines. You did make bullet changes yesterday (that don't improve the article); the history can't be erased. Please don't lecture about edit warring when you're the one reverting. This lackluster, trivial-dominated page is not important enough to me; I did what little I have time to invite people to improve it, but I'll leave it to you, given your hostility and seeming feelings of ownership. --Melty girl (talk) 22:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- OK then! Otto4711 (talk) 23:18, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
