In regards to the statement "Janet is the only artist to win Soul/R&B and Pop/Rock" female in the same year, Whitney Houston won the two awards at the 1987 and 1994 ceremonies, and Mariah Carey won the same two awards at the 1995 ceremony.

Fair use rationale for Image:Billboardjanet1.jpg

[edit]

Image:Billboardjanet1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recording Academy's Governors Award

[edit]

Where did this award come from? It says nothing about it on the official grammy website. The source to back up the claim doesn't say anything about it either, and a google search revealed nothing! 75.22.26.195 (talk) 14:49, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The best source I could find was a Billboard Magazine listing under its Events Calendar which shows that a ceremony would indeed be taking place. This photo clearly shows Jackson receiving an award with Thomas Newman who is listed as one of the other gentlemen being honored as well. --SophiaPehawkins (talk) 14:54, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updated Totals

[edit]

To be consistent with other artists, I have updated that totals on the right-hand side table to reflect the total amount of awards won by the artist throughout the entire article, and not necessarily the ones inside the table (which in itself is just a summary of the main awards).

Neutral

[edit]

Many of these "awards" only are polls, like the section Other accolades ( Pretty sure no trophy was given). If anyone can view this article, if not, as I have no time to remove myself I will put the Template:POV. Regards, Chrishonduras (talk) 15:14, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Billboard Music Awards

[edit]

Consensus per Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Wiktbdhb

These are the official sources with the number of BBMAs won by Jackson, both from Billboard, both say 10:

Now, the user User:Wiktbdhb uses article that says Jackson won 6 extra awards in 1986. However, the Billboard Music Awards started in 1990; in the 1980s the Billboard Year-End Number One Awards were held. In fact, she won 6 awards at the latter, not at the BBMAs. The user also claims the total is 33 wins according to People.com, which I believe the author was mirroring Wikipedia, as that was the number posted here for a long time.

I'll @ @TheAmazingPeanuts:, @SNUGGUMS:, @Jennica:, @Livelikemusic:, @Anonpediann:, @Tomica: and @Ss112: for opinions. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 10:52, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Opinions don't matter when it has been CONFIRMED by BILLBOARD that she won these awards. The article is just as official as your source. In this instance, Billboard has simply contradicted itself and hasn't properly attributed the total awards she's won. Finally, you're correct the telecast for the BBMAs began in 1990. However, they had been giving out awards prior to that. Billboard is contradicting itself and other sources have her with 33 Billboard Awards. My edit simply reflect this updated information. Thank you. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiktbdhb (talkcontribs) 11:05, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"other sources" is People.com; we are talking Billboard here. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 20:20, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If someone contradicts themselves and later gives a correct figure, then go with that. Snuggums (talk / edits) 12:16, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, the two sources I cited are the latest. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 20:15, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Janet also won Billboard year-end awards in 1983. Top Black Album Artists - Female [1] [2] Dam!ta (talk)
