Hello! I added Ann Freedman, an American art dealer and gallerist, to the "Other notable art dealers" list on this page. For some reason, @Modernist reverted the addition twice, stating "better" the first time and "no dob - questionable at the very least, take it to talk and gain consensus for this inclusion". The list is apparently in chronological form rather than alphabetical, so I added her to the end since she is still living and does not have a date of death. I've never heard of a policy of excluding a notable entry from a list of notable people because there is not a current RS for the DOB. Freedman is clearly notable, and I'm confused as to the reverts and exclusion. Any other editors have thoughts on this? --Kbabej (talk) 19:30, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly and most importantly we do not and we cannot and we will not include every art dealer in the world and throughout history.........If Freedman is to be included in this article then date of birth is totally required in my opinion....Modernist (talk) 21:27, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
She has an article on WP, and is therefore notable. What policy is your opinion based on that a DOB is required to be included? Where are you getting that from? Also, there are entries on the list that don't even have WP articles are are clearly less notable. --Kbabej (talk) 22:51, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please note: I have requested a third opinion (WP:3O) for this discussion. My original request stated: "Another editor (@Modernist has removed art dealer Ann Freedman from the List of art dealers page twice after I added her today. There is no reason based in policy why Freedman should be excluded from this list. Modernist has stated her birth date is not known, and therefore she cannot be included. I've never heard of that policy or practice in my entire editing "career" on WP. If one looks at the page, there are nine featured of notable art dealers, seven of which are men (and one of which does not even have a WP article). If anything, when Modernist states Freedman should not be included, men without WP articles should be removed in favor of notable women being added (if space is an issue - which it isn't). Also important to note, I was only listing her in the "Other notable art dealers" list, not the featured list up above. I would appreciate another editor weighing in here, as this is not a highly trafficked article and there seem to be some OWN issues going on. Discussion is happening at Talk:List_of_art_dealers. Thank you!" After reviewing the 3O directions again, I edited that request to read: "Should Ann Freedman be added to List of art dealers? Discussion is happening at Talk:List of art dealers. Thank you!" --Kbabej (talk) 23:08, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I dont see why she should not be included. This list is weirdly formatted, why are some dealers given paragraph descriptions and others just listed? I dont know why a DOB should be a requirement and Freedman is obviously a notable (ex) dealer. Modernist, can you elaborate as to why you think she should not be on this list? None of those guidelines apply here, but if it will resolve this, vanity fair said she was about 63 at the time of the article which was 2012, so we can call her 73 if you insist. I dont understand why you are insisting, but fine, lets just resolve this and move on. Bonewah (talk) 13:25, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
