Scope and direction of page

[edit]

The featured list criteria is a good road map to use as this page develops. An intro about archives in Canada and a scope for the types of archives are going to be needed so that there's a sense of what should be added to the page. For example, digital archives and historical societies should (maybe) sit within their own lists like those for museums, libraries and genealogical societies. And how will archival institutions without an online presence be handled in terms of verifiability, etc.? Could they be referenced with a link to a list of archives on which they appear or to the AtoM record in the provincial/territorial institutional records repository? - Dnllnd (talk) 23:00, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Danielle, I'm not sure if you were trying to limit the number of "types" of institutions but in adding the AGO, I didn't think any of the existing categories were a great fit -- and presumably there are other arts orgs to be added. Thanks for initiating this page! Artchivist1 (talk) 16:18, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! No, the types were less an attempt to limit things than a jumping off point to get the ball rolling. It probably makes sense to try and scope things to some degree, but art orgs weren't well represented, so it's great to see the addition! - Dnllnd (talk) 22:41, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Linking

[edit]

What are people's thoughts on external linking to archives? I think that links should go to the section of a website where information about the archives, collections, etc are outlined. This approach minimizes having to find it and provides a better idea of what's available to end users. -Dnllnd (talk) 13:19, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I can't find any reference to an archives or local history collection on the websites of Teeterville or Delhi. -- Zanimum (talk) 13:26, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Zanimum: I find the absences tough to read! It's impossible to tell if there's no web presence because there aren't resources in place to have one or is there's no web presence because the archives has been closed. Dnllnd (talk) 14:00, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reference library not an archives, agreed?

[edit]

Hi all. Would everyone agree that most reference libraries are not archives, with the exception of things like Thomas Fischer Rare Books? Why I ask, Bytown Museum seemingly only has a library. -- Zanimum (talk) 13:54, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Checking through the links from the equivalent Archiverdict Wiki page I am finding a certain amount of linkrot etc: I have made a few changes for the A and B entries so far, but it looks as if much needs updating on this list. (Feel free to make use of the wiki if more convenient.) Jackiespeel (talk) 17:24, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Now up to L - a certain amount of updating of the links on the WP page will be necessary. Jackiespeel (talk) 17:19, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for development

[edit]

Could the information be re-presented in this format [1] - ie a list divided up by (Canadian) Province: would be much easier to keep in alphabetical order as changes are made. Jackiespeel (talk) 00:09, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Anglican Church of Canada archives

[edit]

Perhaps the various entries could be brought together on a separate page (or as a subsection of the ACC article)? Jackiespeel (talk) 16:39, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

City of Cambridge Archives

[edit]

'Is 'Cambridge Archives and Records Centre Cambridge' the same as 'City of Cambridge Archives] - website [2]? Jackiespeel (talk) 18:12, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
