Incomplete list
[edit]Please add other states also. States like Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have not been listed here. Tuticorin has been listed as a separate state or territory, which should be corrected. -Amod Bhagwat 05:40, 28 October 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ab 18 (talk • contribs)
New Airport Role
[edit]The current list of Airport Roles is inadequate in describing the status of public airports used mostly for General Aviation purposes. I propose the addition of 'General Aviation' category in the list of Roles for airports that are operational but do not yet have scheduled airline services. Thanks. Trinidade (talk) 17:12, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Table incorrect
[edit]No airports in Punjab state have been included such as Amritsar, Chandigarh, Ludhiana etc. Please update — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.213.221.228 (talk) 13:47, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Done. Four Airports in Punjab added. Trinidade (talk) 19:28, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Merge into one table
[edit]Merging all these tables into one table (along with a column named State) will make the article a lot more useful. For example, sorting by category will allow the reader to quickly locate all international airports in India. Thanks.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 17:26, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Mimsa International Airport

Chandigarh Airport to be merged under table of Punjab
[edit]Hello Fellow Wikipedians, Chandigarh Airport is mentioned under a separate column. However, on the wiki article of Chandigarh airport itself, it is confirmed that the location of airport is indeed in SAS Nagar,Punjab. (However, the name continues to be named as 'Chandigarh Airport' by IATA.
Considering the fact of location, we have tabulated tables on based of location and not on based on name. Since, the location of airport is not under territory of UT of Chandigarh. It should be included under Punjab. A reference can be taken from List_of_airports_in_the_United_Kingdom_and_the_British_Crown_Dependencies where London-Heathrow,London-Stansted,London-Southend,London-Gatwick and London-City are classified based on their location inspite of fact that all of them contain London in their name. Regards Sayswalk (talk) 10:28, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Ok, so I was the one who reverted Sayswalk's edit. Ch-aviation states the airport is in the Union Territory of Chandigarh [1] and so does routes-online [2]. Anyways if The Union Territory of Chandigarh is the capital of both PB and HR, lets just keep the airport a part of a "Chandigarh Section" instead of PB and/or HR. Hi, I would like to re-iterate few details- 1) https://www.routesonline.com/airports/6075/chandigarh-airport/ does indeed mention that the airport is located in Mohali,Punjab and not Chandigarh if you see.
2) The information given in https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/airports/IXC is obsolete and not up to date. The old terminal of Chandigarh airport was located in Chandigarh. But, the new terminal was completely under jurisdiction of Mohali,Punjab
3)The are tertiary sources which clearly state the location of article in Punjab. Eg. http://airportchandigarh.com/info/chandigarh-international-airport-update, https://www.yatra.com/domestic-airports/chandigarh-airport_chandigarh
4) The official website of Airport Authority of India clearly mentions the airport located in Mohali, Punjab - https://www.aai.aero/en/airports/chandigarh There is no dispute.
This case is on the lines of Hindon Airport, which is geographically located and controlled by UP but serves as satellite airport of Delhi. It is also classified under UP and not Delhi because we are classifying on basis of location. Therefore, due to same reason, Chandigarh Airport should come under Punjab column only Sayswalk (talk) 21:09, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment Ok, so I'd go with a point wise analysis -
- I'm not sure what you're seeing and what I'm missing in the routes-online source as it states - "Chandigarh Airport is located in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, India about 9km from the city centre."
- Calling a source like Ch-aviation obsolete isn't helping and if the old terminal was located in the CH-UT and the new terminal in PB that means the airfield as a whole lies on both PB and CH-UT territory. So, that's sort of a stalemate.
- Now the airport website source doesn't look too convincing but I'd accept it while travel-sites are pretty unreliable and we don't generally use them as sources.
- Now, the AAI page is interesting it gives IXC's location as "New Civil Air Terminal Chandigarh, Chandigarh International Airport Mohali" , it does mention Mohali but does not mention Punjab while for airports like ATQ it says Punjab - "Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport Amritsar-143101 (Punjab)" [3] and BUP "Bathinda Airport, Punjab-151201" [4].
- Hindon (
HDXVIDX) is located in Ghaziabad, UP not the DL-UT , yes it is in the NC-Region but that's just a region not a state or Union Territory pretty much like "South East Asia" or "Latin America" (on much much smaller scale).
So, those are my thoughts. For clear consensus on this we'd need third party input, until then happy editing! Bingobro (Chat) 03:57, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
1)Hey, You are just looking at first line of routesonline article, Click on read more and here is the full details- Chandigarh Airport is located in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, India about 9km from the city centre. Chandigarh is the best-planned city in India and is called “ THE CITY BEAUTIFUL”. The airport is having a world class Integrated Terminal Building made of glass and steel structure having all modern facilities. In addition to National Carrier Air India, Jet Airways, GoAir and Kingfisher Airlines are operating in domestic sector. There are average 28 flights per day operating to/from this airport. Airport is soon going to start its international operations
Chandigarh Airport has been integrated with Chandigarh International Airport, Mohali instead of leaving it as a domestic airport. Work is underway for a new international terminal, alongwith new intergrated terminal building, three link taxiways, parallel taxi track, cargo complex and hangars of flying club activities and runway extension. The terminal will have aero-bridges, construction of apron for parking wide-bodied jet aircraft.
Chandigarh International Airport is coming up at 306 acres (1.24 km2) land of Jheorehri village, Mohali. Thus, it clearly mentions the airport is indeed located in Mohali.
2)The airfield is half in PB and half in CH. But, the terminal is 100% or completely inside Mohali, the entry to Airport is completely governed by Punjab Police and all the laws related to the airports are also made by Punjab Govt only. Thus, not just geographically, also politically this airport is also governed by Punjab Govt.
3) The one of travel site I mentioned is one of the largest in country and even if you would say its unreliable, the official website of AAI also mentions same.
4) The AAI writes Mohali which is understood as Mohali is completely a part of Punjab. There is no separate need to write Punjab. Though, it may have written for other airports like Amritsar,Bhatinda but there is no compulsion to write state when district is mentioned clearly.
5) Check the article, Hindon(HDX) is included in UP. Why it is not included in column of Delhi? Doesnt that goes same for Chandigarh/Mohali Airport.
These are also my views. I am in no way arguing but just having a thoughtful discussion on the subject. Regards Sayswalk (talk) 05:17, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: The list is stratified as per the states and union territories. Since Chandigarh is a separate entity, besides being the capitals of Haryana and Punjab, I believe the airport should be listed under a separate Chandigarh header, which it is currently. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:37, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment
HDXVIDX is always referred to as Hindon or Ghaziabad, never Delhi-Hindon unlike London-Stansted or London-Luton. Also, in the case of IXC its not like IXC is right outside the CH-UT and there are more airport's closer to the city on the territory of the UT like Greater London has LHR and LCY. Bingobro (Chat) 04:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
- Comment* Is there a possibility that the airport be added in column of both Punjab and Chandigarh as a benefit of doubt to both sides? I am not on either of side, I am just asking if it's possible? Sayswalk (talk) 08:48, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
