Important: Read First

How-To Guide

Updating this list may seem to be complicated, but it is rather simple. The following instructions are very step by step and thus appears longer.

Step 1: A Developer/Publisher (ex. Konami) Announces they are Making a Wii Game
List the name of the Developer/Pubisher and Whatever Known Details on the List of Untitled Wii Projects. Please follow the steps in the how-to guide found on that Talk Page.

Step 2: The Dev/Pub Announces a Title for the Project

1. Delete the Entry from List of Untitled Wii Projects.
2. Add it to the List of Wii games it in Alphabetical order, as the default sort is by name. Update whatever Details are Known.
3. Be sure a source exists for this game. Check first in the Nintendo of America list, Nintendo of Europe Quarterly Update, or GameSpot list; if it is not listed on these lists, be sure to footnote the article, using ref tags.
4. If it does not yet exist, please create the article, or at least a stub, for this title. Be sure that the source link is within the article.
5. Update the Total Count (found in the introduction) to include this new game.

Step 3: The Dev/Pub Announces a Release Date (ex. October 23, 2007)
Replace {{TBA|2007|Q4}} and change it to <span style="display:none">02007-10-23</span>[[October 23]], [[2007]].

• Note: Beware of Placeholder Dates that many sites use. Often times if it says a game is to be released on June 30 or December 31st, that doesn't mean that it will be out on that day, but rather they don't know the exact release date. Use Google to verify release dates with different sources.

Notes:

• Create a stub/article if the title is redlinked (no article created yet).

• Do not leave any entries blank. This makes sorting less effective. If any piece of information is unknown put TBA in that spot.

• If the developer or publisher is unknown, add <span style="display:none">Zz</span> before TBA.

• Put 'TBA' under a release date if there is a chance that a game will come out for that specific region. Put 'Unreleased' under a release date if there is a good chance that a game will not come out in that region.

• Use the 'span style="display:none"' tag to have games that start with 'The' to sort properly. If you don't know what I am talking about, look at the code for The Godfather Blackhand Edition or The Bigs entries

• Do not add Virtual Console (downloadable) titles to this list. They belong on the Virtual Console list.

• Keep this list current.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Must the reference be free and online?

Online sources are preferred as they can be easily accessed for reference. If a game has been confirmed in a magazine, chances are a reliable online source will have the information as well. The reference must be cited if not on the Nintendo of America or GameSpot lists.

2. I heard that X Game is coming to the Wii. Can I add it?

The general inclusion guideline states: The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. This means that we only publish material that is verifiable with reference to reliable, published sources. And more specifically: One of the keys to writing good encyclopedia articles is to understand that they should refer only to facts, assertions, theories, ideas, claims, opinions, and arguments that have already been published by reputable publishers. In other words, as long as you can verify it with reliable sources, you may add it.

3. Define a 'Reliable Source'.

This is a tricky subject, as even the most prominent gaming magazines and sites contain much speculation of upcoming games. Here is a general breakdown of reliable sources:

• Highest Reliability: Press Releases, Developer's/Publisher's Website, Wii.com
• High Reliability: Famitsu, IGN, GameSpot
• Good Reliability: GoNintendo, Joystiq, Kotaku
• Low Reliability: Other Nintendo/Gaming blogs and sites
• No Reliability: Forums

This list, of course, is not conclusive. If a headline starts with the word 'Rumor', do not add it onto this list until the headline reads 'Confirmed'. Please use your best judgment when adding titles to this list.

4. Game Pages vs. Actual Articles

Please link to the actual page announcing the game, not the game page specific to that game. For example, link to IGN, not to IGN. This is due to the fact that sites often create game pages for speculated releases as well as confirmed releases.

5. The Wii can play games all the way back to the NES/Famicom, so I want to add those games to this list.

Older games are for older systems. Just look and the PlayStation series. PlayStation 3 plays PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, yet none of those are counted as PS3 games. Additionally, the list of Virtual Console games is a separate list and may not be combined.

6. They've announced that they're making a game for the Wii from movie/television show 'X'. How do I properly link the title?

Please put [[X (video game)|X]]. Even if the title is redlinked (no article exists), it shouldn't be linked to the movie article.

7. I've noticed you're missing this game/this date/this detail...

page/file size

when editing, it states the page is 87 kb long, and to think about cutting it down into smaller pages.

is it worth changing it to a page for 3 letters, ie page abc, page def, page ghi etc, or to a page for each letter??

Well, a lot of the functionality of this list comes from the ability to sort it. Assuming that we are forced to break it up due to size reasons, making separate lists by region would likely work better while still letting people sort by Publisher/Developer/release date. Well, if the sections were broken out by region, it would drop the size of each list to half the size (in terms of memory) of the current one. After all, two out of six columns would be gone and all the games not being released in that region as well.

However, I think any split should wait until it is needed. Unless the article hits a hard limit in the wiki software, I don't see the need. I have used this list on a number of different computers and connections and there is no performance issue. I think the 87kb warning is in place because for a normal style article, that would represent a lot of paragraphs and likely indicate several natural break points. Reading the article on Wiki page size, I've concluded that not only is the maximum KB a suggestion rather than a rule, but more importantly that it applies to actual articles and not to lists, so we should be fine. Deleting Entries

What's up, why did you delete Gradius III. It was already confirmed for Europe's release on QJ for September on the the Virtual Console. Zeta26 00:41, 29 September 2007 (UTC).

Players/Genre

Please add this game

There's a game called Mario Strikers Charged. I don't think I need links to prove that it's a real game. Why's it not on the list? 17th Jan 08

All Nibris games, including Sadness, are cancelled. The same applies to Crossbeam Studios. Unfortunately for these teams their projects were too ambitious for them and as such they have been removed from the list. Players Column

Love the list but it could really use a column that tells a person how many players can play a particular game at a glance. I’ve looked all over the net for a Wii games list that includes this. It's actually a bit harder to list out than it seems. Games like WarioWare: Smooth Moves are listed on the box as saying only one controller is required (which might lead some to believe it's a single player endeavour) when in fact there is a multiplayer component that supports up to 12 people. Addition of Columns

Games to be added

Anyone care to help me look for games missing from the list? Go to Nintendo's website, Gamefaqs and other sites, then search through the game lists and add relevant titles. Another way to search: go through Category:Wii games and compare it to the list. Note: on Gamefaqs, they list Virtual Console titles too, so double check it's for the Wii before adding it to this list. I think for the most part references are being put in the article for that game instead of here on the theory that this article should not contain any unique information, merely a subset of the information available for each of the games. Some people seemed to feel that the references were cluttering the page, and while I don't really agree, it seems to work fine the way it is.Telvin 3d (talk) 21:35, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Mind Games title directs to John Lennon Album

Just happened to click that game when browsing through the titles and saw that it leads to "John Lennon's fourth post-Beatles album. Not listed... obviously. I think the list needs a "regions released" section, as that would make the table neater. I'm noy good at making tables, so perhaps someone else could work on it? We created the current format based upon the List of Nintendo GameCube games, as well as the featured list of Nintendo 64 games; in both list you'll note that Australian release dates are not specified, due to the proximity to European releases for the majority of titles. Europe (like Japan and North America) have many games exclusive to that region. Oceania, to the best of my knowledge has none. Also, sales in Europe far exceed those in Australia/Oceania. DemonCleanerUK (talk) 08:08, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

That's not entirely true. Australia doesn't get many exclusive titles at all (we do get a few, such as AFL Premiership 2007 for the PS2 - it is likely that an AFL game will appear on the Wii eventually), but the release dates in Australia are often significantly different from those in Europe. Australia/New Zealand deserves to have a column, not because of high sales numbers, or existence of exclusives, but because of our distinctness from Europe. Personally, I think we should split this list into two parts - one part for game details, and one for release dates. The release dates one can include columns for Oceania and perhaps also Korea (or another such region that is getting Wii games), as well as a "notes" section for anything else regarding releases. Can we add a 'category' column?

I'd like to see basic categories, such as Action, Adventure, Sports, RPG, Strategy, etc. in the List of Wii Games. Is this possible? Thx, T_D

I don't think so. To my knowledge none of these console lists have it, and the Wii list certainly wont be the first. If you want to know the type of game it is: either read the article or search elsewhere. I believe this has been brought up before (I can't remember if it was for this list or a similar one). The table can't just have many extra sections jammed into it, otherwise it will become cluttered and messy. Even if the game types are shortened, that wont make a big difference. Region order

Why is the current region order: Japan, Europe, North America? To me, the most logical order would be in the order the system launched: North America, Japan, Europe. TJ Spyke 11:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

A lot of thought went into the order of the columns when creating the sortable table format. I realize that while the English Wikipedia is open to users from all over the world, the majority of people would be from the North American region. As such, the two most important pieces of information are the title and the North American release date. To allow quick access to this information, they're positioned on the opposing sides. At the middle is the Japanese release dates, as they allow this list to be comprehensive and allow any English speaking Wikipedians in Japan to see what games have been released there, but the majority of Wii owners in Japan wouldn't look here for that information. -Digiwrld1 (talk) 07:00, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Critical Ratings Column?

Would it be a good idea to add a ratings column that lists critics scores for the games from sites like Metacritic.com and Gamerankings.com?

Combing Through the List

First, thanks to everyone who's been working so diligently on this page and ensuring it contains the most up-to-date and comprehensive information.

A modest proposal: In the references section, let's have it so that only Nintendo.com, Nintendo.co.uk, or Nintendo.co.jp are our primary references. Then, any title that is not listed on one of these three sites must have a reference linking to the PR or similar reference. I realize that GameFly has a near perfect record of predicting the next Wii game, but it doesn't hold the same weight in terms of a confirmation.

The current list is already the most comprehensive Wii list anywhere, but now I'd like to focus on it being the most verifiable. I'll be working on the Japanese titles and dates via Nintendo.co.jp, as that's likely the toughest due to translation issues. If anyone else would like to assist with this, I appreciate any help, but please make a note of which site you're checking so there's no double work going on.

Article size concern

This article is getting awfully big. We should make separate articles for each major region for Europe, Australia, & Japan. In case you guys were wondering about the North America one, I just created it today and started it. The article is called List of Wii games (North America) To help save size memory, the games that have a silver Unreleased word on a particular region should not be added in the region's article. I support this plan. The NA sort function is broken (and this is not the first time either), as the list is larger than any other sortable list. I have enjoyed seeing all the Wii releases in one neat list, but practicality is of the utmost importance, and as such it is necessary to split the lists.

The table is getting too long here, so I created the NA region article. Tehw1k1, you just copy and paste the North American info and put it in the article (The same for other regions). Controller compatible.

You know when you go shopping for a game and you look it up on the web, someone is trying to know which game is fully realized by at least 3 control methods. Wii remote and/or nunchuk, controller and gamecube. Unfortunately, I'm having great difficulty thinking which game has either of those controls. I suppose you need to make a new page to make it easier for people to know which games is control-worthy. Otherwise, I'm looking at a long list with publishers and release dates. You might also need to rethink what the list should contain. I mean if I go in this page and my expectations have dropped than I wonder what info should I be getting. But if you already have a page showing which games has more control methods than I can ease my nerves on this.
