- Original research. There is no citation given for the region/subregion names and Google does not suggest they are in common use anywhere (except clones of this article). Some of the names have been totally changed during a sequence of anonymous edits, suggesting they are original coinages by the editor.
- Requires attention: the introduction of the subtotal lines has broken the sortability of the table.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 16:47, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
- Following discussions on WikiProject_Wales about the region/subregion names (TL:DR "They mean absolutely nothing to me...distracting and uninformative") I have reverted the table to its simple, sortable form without them.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 17:59, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
Merge proposal
[edit]I propose List of Welsh principal areas by area be merged into List of Welsh principal areas by population. This requires only the addition of one column into the existing table, and anyone wishing to see the area stats ordered can use the function in the table, no need for a separate article. As there is already a column for the population density, the area stat obviously directly relates to that in combination with the population stat. Keeping them in one place makes it more efficient to update them in a consistent fashion as new figures are released.
I also proposing a merge to the same article for List of Welsh principal areas which is a much more recent addition and is basically pointless as it stands, giving only the name of the PA and its category which the older articles on the subject already had. I suppose there is scope to expand it with more info on the PAs, but it is already named 'List of' so not much is expected to be on there. Crowsus (talk) 07:16, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

- Support merging List of Welsh principal areas by area be merged into List of Welsh principal areas by population. As is pointed out, this only requires an additional column, which helps explain the population density. But I think the List of Welsh principal areas could remain as a standalone list. Similarly to the List of counties in England, there is ample scope to give details of dates of creation, previous counties etc. Sionk (talk) 17:43, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, as suggested I have now merged Area into Population and left the overall List for expansion. Crowsus (talk) 01:42, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- Disagree No reasons were given by either of the above editors as to why they wanted to merge the two lists. Other countries have separate lists, so why pick on Wales? eg List of United States cities by area and List of United States cities by population; List of English districts by area and List of English districts by population; List of counties of England by area in 1831 etc. I'm not against merging, but there should always be a reason. Also, as with List of metropolitan areas in Asia, there's no need of 'by area' or 'by population' if the article contains both. So, I suggest renaming List of Welsh principal areas by population to 'List of Welsh principal areas'. I agree that List of Welsh principal areas should be kept, and can't think of a single reason why it should be merged. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 19:17, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
