I think it is probably best if this page is turned into a page listing all the episodes of Upstairs Downstairs. I dont think each series deserves a seperate page. I will change the name, then add the other series over the next few days. --UpDown 20:09, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear UpDown, I respect your concern for the maintenance of the articles dealing with Upstairs Downstairs but I cannot see how a short introduction to each episode consisting of two or so sentences would square with your intention to describe each episode in detail. As soon as you are ready to do that you can. But I would greatly appriciate it if you would restore my contributions as a little piece of information is better than none at all and that is what Wikipedia is about, isn't it? (i.e. information) --Davidon 13:38, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you create the episode pages witn the sentance you originally wrote? That page could then be expanded. I think that having a few sentances where you put them looked messy. The page would need to be resigned to allow sentances about each episode. --UpDown 13:55, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I understand you are used to doing things the way you please (with the excellent website updown.org.uk) but Wikipedia is shared project and a work in progress and if you want to create a seperate page for each episode that is fine (even though you wrote you didn't think it sensible on 21 June this year). But please don't impose on how things should be done on other people when your specific concern is not information but aestethic considerations as this is not updown.org.uk. I can see nothing wrong with giving people a short glimpse of what an epsiode deals with in a couple of sentences as I did (and there is no redesigning necessary - I just added the words) and on top of that have a seperate page to go to as soon as you or anyone else might get round to creating it. I think it is wrong to erase other contributions just because you think they should go further. Wikipedia isn't about the choice between perfection or nothing. --Davidon 15:10, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly we are going to have to agree to disagree. What I orginally said was that each series didn't deserve a page in the format as it then was; having one or two sentance about each episode means that it could all have been on one page, not five seperate pages for each series. It later occured to me that a major series like this deserves each page for an episode. I also feel that if all 60+ episodes had one or two sentances the page would be very long; and unneccesarily long when each episode will have its own page. I am not trying to make it look like updown.org.uk; after it has little information about each episode, I am merely trying to make the page look tidy and each to navigate. --UpDown 21:41, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dear UpDown, I hear (read) what you are saying (writing) but I must think your argument is just cloaking some alterior motive. After all, the List of Characters is exactly what you say you don't want the List of Episodes to be. I would like to understand what your real reasons for trying to keep other people from doing with the Episode List what you have done with the Character List, if I may.--Davidon 15:22, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To be perfectly honest, I now think you are insulting me by saying I have "some alterior motive"; my only motive is to improve the quality of Upstairs, Downstairs articles on Wikipedia.
In additon, your sentance "to keep other people from doing with the Episode List what you have done with the Character List, if I may". For one, apart from you, who are these other people? No one else has complained, the only comment I have had so far was positive about my additions. Secondly, your comments about the character page are confusing; I am not sure to what you are refering. If you are refering to the short biographies for some characters, this is because they have not yet been expanded. The main characters will have their own page, but with characters like Sir Geoffrey Dillon I think a paragraph on the "List of..." is sufficient. Look at Gregory Wilmot; this is what I want each minor character to look like eventually not just one or two sentances.
And if I may go back to the presentation of this page; nearly all episode list pages on Wikipedia that feature an "Overview" of the episode do so in a table. This makes it look tidy and easy to read. Adding a table would not only take some time, when the time could be better spend creating episode/character pages, but would also mess up the layout of the page (ie the DVD photos).
I hope this settles it, and instead of arguing we can spend out time improving Wikipedia and perhaps start by creating the episode pages for the first two episodes? --UpDown 22:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
