[edit]I would recommend these units are listed by their formal name, rather than by their commander's name. BradMajors 17:35, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I recommend both. Some historical records use the one format and some the other. If both are used, inquiring minds will be able to find the unit they're looking for. Thanks, Wordreader (talk) 01:51, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

- The link you provided takes us to a site called The Aerodrome and a discussion forum thread about myths of WW 1 flying aces. Since this probably not what you meant, could you please update your link? http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/people/37173-sorting-myth-fact-aces.html

[edit]I removed the square brackets from the 3rd Regiment of Foot as it takes us to the wrong article: Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) of England. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Buffs_(Royal_East_Kent_Regiment) Thanks, Wordreader (talk) 02:07, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
North Carolina militia
[edit]I entered all of the North Carolina militia units with their dates of establishment and disestablishment.
Would it be good to have a template with links to each of the state militia lists for the American Revolution?
There was not a unit called the Overmountain Men at the time of the Revolution, so I will remove that unit for North Carolina. It was a term made up in the 1800s to describe the Regiments in the western regions of North Carolina.
Griffith Rutherford's Light Horse was not a unit. It was a campaign. It should be removed, too.

Copy of text to List of United States militia units in the American Revolutionary War
[edit]Some of the text and sourcing from pages listed in the see also's has been copied to List of United States militia units in the American Revolutionary War to help in comparing militia units that served in the American Revolution from each of the 13 colonies. The focus is on historical context of the units. A note has been put on each of the talk pages where the text was copies from. Not every state has an article on the Revolutionary War militia. Most often the history is found in articles on the National Guard. The name of the page where it is located is in the see also for each section of the United State militia units list.
Good general references for militia in the United States or individual states is listed in the bibliography section.

Gale's Independent Artillery
[edit]This unit is listed as a unit in the Maryland militia. Two sources are cited, one is called "Robertson and McDonald, Muster Rolls" with no further information. The other is Balkowski's book. Balkowski makes no mention whatsoever of this unit. That citation should be removed. The "Robertson and McDonald" citation should be improved so that other researchers can find it.
I should also mention that the provided list of units is woefully incomplete. There were more than 38 battalions of Maryland Militia.
Finally, the "Flying Camp" were not militia, but were short-lived regular units in the Continental Army. You don't have to believe me; the official Archives of Maryland have clearly stated this.
The best available list of Maryland militia units is at: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Maryland_Militia_in_the_Revolutionary_War
The primary source used in creating the list is: Clements, S. Eugene and Wright, F. Edward, The Maryland Militia in the Revolutionary War, Westminster, MD : Heritage Books, 2006. CrankyToday (talk) 18:36, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
