Saige listing

[edit]

In the section for Smosh, Smosh Games, and Smosh Pit, Saige is only listed for the second two. At the very least, she appears in the video Damien Interviews his Exes, and is also in the "always sunny" main cast photo used at their channel banner. This suggests that at the very least she was at one point intended to be a main channel member. 2601:240:8301:140:A16D:2AE0:9F9B:26C4 (talk) 19:38, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article has potential to become a Featured List in the future. There are definitely quite a lot of sources that discuss the cast members as a group that prove the topic satisfies WP:NLIST, and I think if we were to rewrite parts of the article to reflect such sources, it would meet criteria 1 through most of 3 easily. My concern however is the number of primary sources to confirm much of the cast members' first and last appearances, along with some cast members not being referenced in secondary reliable sources. Also, the table marks the channels each member appears in, but are there any reliable sources verifying this? I feel that'll be a question an FL reviewer will ask if we take it up to review as it is. Anyways, feel free to discuss below. Thanks, PantheonRadiance (talk) 20:55, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline Unnecessary

[edit]

@Mewhen123 posting here as you want to discuss it (and apologies again for the image snafu). I think we should look at removing the timeline from the page. As it stands it's doing little more than just duplicating the information contained in the tables above without adding any extra notable context that isn't present already. I think the timeline adds a nice visual way of seeing who was with the channel at what time. I use them a lot on band member articles, which can be compared easier to this cast list that other cast lists Mewhen123 (talk) 19:30, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand it on those groups, because you can have a high amount of turnover in lots of different roles within the band, but here the table more than adequately covers that arrangement. Also I think it leaves us a bit more vulnerable to WP:OR as, for example with Tommy, we can obviously say they've been considered cast now since this year given a couple of recent videos explicitly calling them as such, but stretching it to include ever appearance on in their output over the last several years is us deciding that's them as cast. Rambling Rambler (talk) 19:49, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is a fair concern, I added smaller lines to Trevor and Tommy to signify that they didn't just join out of the blue. The timeline adds a good compliment to the table. Mewhen123 (talk) 20:00, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone back and edited it slightly, and I think it demonstrates one of the other problems we have which is that Smosh is extremely bad at defining "cast member" at times. It's one of the reasons why the table is better (because it only goes to an accuracy level of year of joining/leaving) but the timeline is down to the day and month, which puts us into jeopardy with WP:OR because, using Tommy again as an example, we don't actually have any sort of official announcement he is one. The best we have is a video or two this year (which we don't know filming dates of) where he's declared cast.
If we had a lot more cast who only appeared on a single channel and not the others and had more accurate information I could understand the timeline adding further detail, but at present given that information issue and the level of detail the article covers I think it's best we remove it as we should be airing on the side of caution when it comes to problems with original research. Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:10, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mewhen123 just to add further, actually went back and added a source to cover Kimmy's departure and she herself states that she transitioned from cast to crew at simply some point in early 2023, which I think further demonstrates the issue with the timeline in that we can't say when in 2023 it was. Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:26, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i do understand your concerns. These issues I have encountered with member articles. I still think the timeline serves a purpose, although if anyone else expresses an opinion that it should be removed then I will concede Mewhen123 (talk) 20:53, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be amenable then for me to list this on Wikipedia:Third_opinion to get an uninvolved view on the matter? Rambling Rambler (talk) 21:16, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
that would be helpful Mewhen123 (talk) 20:07, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I've listed it at third opinion. Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:03, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Response to third opinion request:
Conditional keep.
The timeline-graphic is a helpful visual summary of the otherwise overwhelming minutia of the article's tables and paragraphs. However, the degree of specificity given in the timeline for memberships' beginning and end dates is too great with the available information and given context.
I'd recommend that the timeline be edited so that the start and end dates are limited to the start and end of a year whenever a member's start and end dates are contested or are not specified to a given month.
If this were to happen, imo the tables could be removed to reduce the length of the article without losing any information (bar the photos of the members but these could be included in the timeline-graphic as well). This goes past the scope of the 3-O request so feel free to ignore this last suggestion.

Thanks for the 3O @FropFrop. @Mewhen123 don't know what your view of implementing this is then as a result. Given that every cast member's joining and leaving dates are contested due to lack of information would that make the timeline a little too inaccurate (for example Jackie would be changed to leaving on 01-01-2024 given the lack of date as to when she left in 2023).
If we're going to the point of they started in x year and left in y year we do start to get to territory of "why not just have the table". Rambling Rambler (talk) 12:13, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
