Scheduling Conflicts
[edit]Just a fair warning to other editors; a recent change in the episode order has created a bit of conflict as to what is going on with this schedule. I personally went with the episode order in the Rizzoli & Isles "Episode Description" section on the Turner Press Kit website, but here's a chart of the chaos as it currently stands:
Scheduled Airdate | TNT Press/R&I Wiki | MSN TV | Futon Critic | TV Guide |
---|---|---|---|---|
August–2010 | "I Kissed a Girl" | Money for Nothing | I Kissed a Girl | Money For Nothing |
August–2010 | "Money for Nothing" | I Kissed a Girl | Born to Run | TBA |
August–2010 | "Born to Run" | Born to Run | Money For Nothing | TBA |
Like I said, my data is coming straight from Turner, but there may be other, more recent press releases I'm unaware of that are changing this information. I think our best bet is to rely on the information as it is currently displayed, and verify or update the information as these dates come available at the episode guide on TNT's Rizzoli & Isles home page. KnownAlias contact 16:28, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- The Futon Critic just updated it's info to verify the TNT info. I'll be switching the sources for the relevant episodes. KnownAlias contact 02:04, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- I guess I should've paid better attention; The Futon Critic is now verifying MSN's information. God, I'm tired right now. KnownAlias contact 03:50, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Season splits
[edit]I've just reverted, and not for the first time, parallel season articles for each season. The editor has been informed that WP:SIZERULE applies, and there is no consensus for a split, so the editor started parallel season articles in response. These contain no original content aside from a fancrufty over-elaborate ratings table and a cast list. Moreover, there are no transclusions for seasons 2 and 3, along with different episode summaries. This many errors and policy problems made redirecting again the only solution. The editor has been reverted twice now, and should gain consensus before splitting again. --Drmargi (talk) 20:10, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Pointless ratings table
[edit]I've just reverted the overly long, overly detailed season-by-season viewership and ratings table, citing WP:UNDUE and WP:INDISCRIMINATE. This is an encyclopedia, not a fan site, and this level of detail is neither needed nor accessible to most viewers. Seasonal ratings and viewership drive renewal decisions, whereas episode ratings are useful to the show's producers, but tell the average reader nothing. I'm open to a reasoned argument (i.e. not "because someone might want to see it") why the table should be included, but absent that, the policies cites above apply. --Drmargi (talk) 20:21, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- So my reason why I think the ratings table should stay is because people are interested in seeing how the ratings for show have gone over the years that it's been on the air. It can help people understand why a show might get canceled, or help them understand why it got renewed. I think it should stay on Rizzoli and Isles because it shows how good the shows ratings have been, and also how they've gone down, plus it helps people from having to go to many different sites to get information on ratings, and saves them from getting the wrong information, since the ratings are referenced. --Tvlover96 (User talk:Tvlover96) 0:16 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- The seasonal ratings table and weekly viewership accomplish that already. Weekly ratings and key demo details are far too much information. --Drmargi (talk) 06:49, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Why do you think it's too much information. A lot of other shows have the information about the ratings and demos. For instance shows like Dallas, and Falling Skies. --Tvlover96 (User talk:Tvlover96) 12:47 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- The tables significantly duplicate content already in the episode tables without really adding much, especially for seasons 1 & 2. Timeslot information is unnecessary and "Weekly Rank" is not available for seasons 1 & 2. Viewer figures are already included in the episode tables so the only really new information is "18-49 (rating/share)", which could easily be accommodated in the episode tables using the

- Ratings tables on their own really don't mean much unless third party commentary is included. For example, most people don't really know what "18-49 (rating/share)" means. --AussieLegend (talk) 19:26, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Exactly! It's industry terminology. All you need is viewership numbers/episode and the season-end summary; that's what determines renewal decisions. Just because another article does it doesn't mean this one should. If there's a good reason, yes, but I've yet to hear one. --Drmargi (talk) 19:30, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well actuallly the rating is what helps with a renewal. Just because a show has a good amount of viewers, it could possibly still get canceled if that 18-49 ratings isn't good. And the fact is no one understands what it means because everything thinks it's unimportant when it actually is really important. The 18-49 rating is what the network gets paid for, its the amount of people out the total amount of viewers that is between the ages of 18-49 networks only get paid for those people. It varies between different networks but for TNT a 1.0 rating is good. So the having the 18-49 could help people understand what it is, and help them realize why a show could get canceled or why the rating helped it get renewed, plus you would have less people complaining that their show 7 million viewers but only had a .5 rating. It all makes sense. It's not that people don't understand what it is, it's that they don't ask what it is, so why not just put at the top before the ratings section 'Ratings between 18-49 is what the network gets paid for, it is the amount of viewers between 18-49 that watched the program out of the entire amount of viewership' or something along that line. --Tvlover96 (User talk:Tvlover96) 18:58 23 July 2012 (UTC)

The Note above the section will help people understand what the 18-49 rating is, and with the taking out of the ranking for seasons 1 and 2 the section isn't there anymore and there isn't any tba's in those sections.--Tvlover96 (User talk:Tvlover96) 14:19 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's completely wrong. 18-49 is the number of viewers between 18 and 49 years old, one of several key demographic groups they look at (the largest and most commonly reported of them). Ratings and shares are two numbers, each of which has to do with percentages of available audience. A single digit would never be rating/share, as should be apparent given the label presented as a ratio. If there's that eggregeous an error in the table, it has no business in the article. --Drmargi (talk) 20:55, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Firstly, I also don't see the point of stretching a page just to add a few numbers in a large pointless table. I can see it on a major network series article where numbers might matter the most, but not on a basic cable show, even if it IS successful. Secondly, 18-49 ratings are the decimaled number, the share is the single digit. Should it be voted that the extraneous tables be allowed, the numbers should read X.XX/X as in the table's parenthetical column heading. But if the extra numbers are added, they will need cites, which again will stretch the page and cause long load times for a "list article". Furthermore, if a visitor REALLY wants that information, it is only a click away with the "Viewers" column cites. — Wyliepedia 23:28, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Memoriam for Caldwell Young
[edit]I didn't list it with the summary for episode 49, but they dedicated the episode to Lee Thompson Young. I don't know if we list episode dedications; I just thought it might bear mentioning, tactfully and respectfully. — Wyliepedia 06:26, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Episodes are dedicated to people all the time. There's no need to mention it. It's really WP:TRIVIA. (Who is Caldwell? The character's name is Frost.) --Drmargi (talk) 07:14, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know where "Caldwell" came from. Maybe my alternate personality began this section. — Wyliepedia 06:38, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Trimmed the lead
[edit]I've removed the broadcast history from the lead, as I believe it makes this list page too long.
Here is what it read:
The first two seasons aired Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT.[1] The series was quickly renewed for a second season on July 30, 2010, after airing only three episodes.[2] The third season premiered on a new night and time, Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning June 5, 2012.[3] Seasons 4 through 6 have aired. Season 7 will be the last due to cancellation and returned to the Monday timeslot of 9 p.m. ET/PT.

- ^ "Rizzoli & Isles: Season 3 Press Info Now Available" (Press release). Turner Broadcasting System. March 12, 2012. Retrieved June 2, 2012.
This being the final season, I don't think it matters about the timeslot changes now, unless the network changes it mid-stride. Also Wikipedia is not a TV guide, despite that link stating "historically significant program lists and schedules should be acceptable". That means a network page, not this. However, I left mentioning when the current season airs. Feel free to add this information back, but it should be discussed here first. — Wyliepedia 05:24, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Ratings recap
[edit]Since we are nearing the end of the series, I think the ratings tables should be removed, for page length and load times' sake, and replaced with overall prose. I'm in the process of looking for seasonal numbers and, so far, have found a TV by the Numbers source, which states:
Rizzoli & Isles launched in 2010, finishing its first year as basic cable's #1 new series. Each year since, it has ranked as one of basic cable's Top 5 series with total viewers, as well as one of basic cable's Top 10 series with adults 25-54. The show topped the charts as the #1 series on basic cable this past summer, with 7.6 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery. Rizzoli & Isles was also the #2 series (behind TNT's The Last Ship) among adults 25-54 and within the Top 5 among adults 18-49 for the summer. When incorporating TNT's multiple platforms, including live viewing, DVR playback, set-top VOD and digital on-demand, the summer run of Rizzoli & Isles reached a total of 13.6 million viewers per episode.[1]
That's how our ratings section should be, general yet specific. — Wyliepedia 02:07, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- I agree. It's time for some parsimony. Moreover, the ratings tables have always been misleading because they've listed R&I's standing for the night rather than the week, as is usual for ratings. The elaborate tables have seen their day. --Drmargi (talk) 02:15, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- Also, the nightly ranks are simply someone comparing the numbers before adding them here and not a reliable source saying "RIZZOLI WAS #1!" — Wyliepedia 02:25, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Wikipedia has the episode titled "Misconduct Games," whereas Internet Movie Database (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4266736/?ref_=ttep_ep5) and the DVD have "Misconduct." The previous episode is "Imitation Game," which might have something to do with the added word in episode five.Jim P. (talk) 13:51, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
