Only forty films?

[edit]

What's the basis for saying North Korea has only made forty films? The IMDB lists 43, and, given the difficulty of finding information about the country, that's probably nothing like the real total. This article from 1992 [1] says it makes (or at least made at that time) eighty films every year:

Nowadays, the sprawling studio west of Pyongyang produces about 40 films annually, with six other facilities wrapping an additional 40 features every year.

If that's true, the IMDB list is only a tiny fraction of all North Korea's film output.--GagHalfrunt 22:47, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB is notoriously incomplete regarding movies made in asian countries : Japanese cinema's treatment is sort of ok, but forget about Thailand or the Philippines. As for North Korea, forget it ! Wedineinheck 10:06, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Strange class DPRK anti American films like "Family of the Cho Hak Sins" and "On the Railways" are not mentioned. Both DPRK leaders were involved in the direction and production of "Family of Choi Hak Sin' so thought it would have a mention if not its own wiki page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.173.61.155 (talk) 07:23, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page rewritten

[edit]

I have added at least over 220 new films on the list, and practically rewrote the article. A lot of the old red link movies on the list got referenced to prove that they actually exist. User:Finnusertop added a few years on the list from Korea Film Export & Import Corporation database, and made some cleanup work too. Some cleanup and reordering of the table wouldn't hurt though... You both did a great work. This is the most comprehensive list of North Korean films on the Internet. Thank you. emijrp (talk) 15:54, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Emijrp: I will be still going to fill some gaps in it later on. :) Your lists have been very useful too! Ceosad (talk) 19:41, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ceosad: @Finnusertop: I have found this source with details about directors and cast for some films. emijrp (talk) 12:49, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Emijrp. I thought I was familiar with that book but I didn't know it includes a detailed listing. Ceosad or I will probably add the info to this article. Currently there are a lot of years missing because Ri's 2012 book doesn't mention the years - but lists some rather peculiar info like reel sizes for each film. Oddly enough, that book also omits Pulgasari - so looks like the North Koreans are trying to forget it! Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 12:56, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
