Noah
[edit]Should be considered International. He plays for France. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.40.168.117 (talk) 15:54, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Page name
[edit]Shouldn't this page be named something like List of foreign NBA players? Like List of foreign MLS players and List of foreign Serie A players. --necronudist 08:45, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree. If we retain the title "List of National Basketball Association players by country", then we should include those born in the USA (and there are many of them). Leoisiah 14:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Past and Present players
[edit]The list is not really useful if not providing a clear distinction between past and currently active players. A simple edit, like italic for past players (they could also be put at the end of each country's list), is the kind of quick and simple solution that would greatly enhance the information content and the encyclopedic usefulness of the list.
As an example, the case of French NBA players has been edited accordingly.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.142.76.194 (talk) 13:31, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Melvin Sanders
- Melvin Sanders has Georgian passport, but it is still unknown whether he has represents Georgia.[1][2] I've added him to the list under Georgia — Martin tamb (talk) 17:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- His father Ernie Vandeweghe is listed under Canada.—Chris!c/t 18:30, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- Jones has an American father and a Luxembourg mother and grew up in the United States.[3][4] I've added him to the list under the United States. — Martin tamb (talk) 17:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
—Moved Jones to Luxembourg, as the Euroleague's official website listed him as a member of the Luxembourg national team. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.12.202.64 (talk) 16:14, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

- Watson has a Mexican mother and has stated his desire to play for Mexico, but he has not played for them.[5][6] I think he should be added to the list after he has represented Mexico. — Martin tamb (talk) 17:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

- Other players
- The most weird case here. He was born in England to Nigerian parents and grew up in the United States. He wanted to represents the Great Britain national team but he is not entitled to a British passport. I've listed him under Nigeria, but on second thought he might not have Nigerian passport as well. He probably has U.S. passport since he grew up there, but there are also no source for this. I'm not really sure where he should be listed, Great Britain, Nigeria or U.S. — Martin tamb (talk) 17:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Noah was born in the United States to a French father and a Swedish mother. He has stated his desire to play for France and was granted French passport in 2007.[7][8] He was named in French provisional roster for the FIBA World Championships 2010,[9] but pulled out due to several reasons.[10] He has stated that he intends to play for France in the future.[11] Based on these, I think it's safe to list him under France. — Martin tamb (talk) 17:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Edwin Ubiles
[edit]Played today, he's with the Wizards, puerto rican player.--BoriPR (talk) 00:34, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Bolivia
[edit]Can Josh Reaves (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Josh_Reaves) be listed as a Bolivian player?
Playoff Debuts
[edit]Luca Vildoza (from Argentina) just made his NBA debut in Game 3 of the Milwaukee-Chicago first-round series. Since I believe he is the first foreign player to make his debut in the playoffs, would he be listed as debuting during the 2021-22 season? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.128.73.69 (talk) 23:46, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Name of article is not correct
[edit]This list contains more than 100 players who were born in the United States, contradicting its title. Coming back to the suggestion further up on this talk page, I would suggest renaming this article "List of foreign NBA players". Spike (talk) 15:51, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
- At some point, the article was moved, but the scope of the list was never addressed. I do think that focusing on birthplaces is ultimately more sustainable. That way, we wouldn't have to worry about guys who were naturalized to play in countries they had no previous connection to. (Which is becoming more and more common, and often happens after a player's NBA career has ended.)
- We may reach a point where this article simply isn't practical, no matter how we define the scope. In the 1990s, international players in the NBA were still something of a novelty, and you could address the topic with a two-page spread in a print book. Today, the situation is much more complex. Zagalejo (talk) 16:03, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- The topic is (was?) notable because the NBA was marketing its growth in foreign players, so WP:LISTN was met with many sources talking about the grouping. The fact that US players are naturalized by other countries is an unrelated topic. I too find the current inclusion of US-born players counter to the page title. —Bagumba (talk) 05:02, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Again about international players
[edit]Is it correct to consider international players such as Andray Blatche or Mike d'Antoni, who were naturalized to other nationalities only after finishing their NBA careers?
And how can Raymond Townsend be considered from Philippines, given that he has always had only USA citizenship? Lucadima (talk) 22:50, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
- The inclusion of US-born players is counter to the page title. —Bagumba (talk) 05:04, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
