Citing sources

I've seen a fair bit of unsourced material on Wikipedia regarding the transition from The WB and UPN to CW and now My Network TV. Most of it has been on station pages speculating as to what network they will end up with. PLEASE make sure to cite a source when you are adding material about fututre affiliations and always use the proper wording. "Kxxx has reported that they plan on being a (network name here) affiliate when the (current affiliation) network ceases to exist in September, 2006." rather than "Kxxx will be ..." until they flip the proverbial switch. It is better to leave off speculative information then having to remove it if it doesn't come to fruition. —A 08:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

The material of this article was announced in the press release made by Fox on February 22, 2006. But I did place a link to that press release as a source. -John 08:13, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

I think the contributor is mostly referring to something that, while it hasn't infected this article (yet), has infected the List of CW affiliates to such an extent there's actually a separate section for it: people wanting to jump the gun and declare one station or another as definitely becoming a CW affiliate. This is also a problem at the individual station pages, to get even more specific to the contributor's concerns; see, e.g., WHDF. This has even become a problem on stations that are expected not to get the CW, like KTUD-CA. I haven't seen this happen with My Network TV, but a quick What links here check of My Network TV shows that it is starting to creep into some articles on stations confirmed not to get the CW. For the most part, however, station pages still say they are becoming "independent stations"; the worst I see is on WCWB and KPDX. Doing this sort of prediction for the CW is not a good idea, considering the skepticism many station owners have about the CW's terms, led by LIN TV: [1]. Doing this for My Network TV is, for the most part, even less of a good idea, especially if an independent station exists in a market. 67.150.210.55 21:12, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

I have removed the Possible Stations section again. I will remind all editors of this wikipedia policy and this wikipedia policy. There are waaaay too many factors at play with this whole merger to be listing any stations on this or the CW list until there is a press release from a reputable source about a certain station. Please discuss this here if you disagree before adding any speculation back onto the page. —A 08:01, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

If we have one for CW, then why not My Network TV as well? CoolKatt number 99999 19:31, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

I have posted a request on that article's talk page to have the users who added the specualation to remove it. It will be gone in a few days. Just because one article has it currently does not make it right, this is wikipedia not a democracy. I am going to remove the speculation again, and until you can provide a compelling reason as to why it is not speculation as defined here, please do not add it again. —A 20:12, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the blank spaces to the table

Thank you for adding those blank spots to the table. When those markets are decided for MNTV affiliation, it will help make things easier. Very much appreciated. -John 06:02, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Until these markets have an officially announced affiliate, we shouldn't be adding information that doesn't exist... it's all speculation, whcih is something to be avoided - see WP:NOT, section 1.8 in particular... TheRealFennShysa 16:10, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

All I can really say is WOW

Fox wasted no time in securing some more affiliates outside of their announced base stations. CW was announced like, a month before, and CBS and Warner seem to be having a little trouble securing affiliates outside of the CBS and Tribune owned stations. I guess with Fox having been very successful in becoming a big time network within only a few years, they're as good as trusted. -John

Oops, my error. I just saw that the CW has affiliated with stations outside of their core groups. But I am right about one thing, it did take them a bit longer. -John 01:07, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
And this has what to do with My Network TV? --CFIF (talk to me) 01:46, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
I was only correcting myself on something I said earlier, something that did have something to do with My Network TV. -John 06:05, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Misunderstanding?

People are putting that since certain stations owned by Sinclair are in a sister station with a Sinclair owned Fox station, it is the reason why these Sinclair owned stations are joining MyTV. This is untrue, so please don't put these on these stations pages. Also, people are putting that some stations were "forced" to join MyNetTv. This is also untrue. --CFIF (talk to me) 02:00, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

March 15 Adds

I'm adding the new stations announced in the B&C article for today, and some of them seem to be Fox affiliates and/or carry UPN/WB as a secondary affiliate. I can't find any conclusive things in the article to suggest secondary status for My Network TV, or if they would (downgrade, change networks? Not sure about the term for changing from Fox to MyNet), so I didn't add them to the grid because I was unsure how MyNet would air on the stations. Nate 23:08, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, and on top of that, a lot of the stations listed are listed alongside another station in that article, and that's not explained. I think we'll have to wait for local media coverage or press releases from the stations/companies themselves. Morgan Wick 03:13, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

WUFX-DT

This fall, WUFX will carry My Network TV on a digital subchannel: 35-2.

This person keeps track of all the CW- and My Network TV-related news...so far, we've yet to include WCFN 49 in Springfield, Ill., WHBQ 63 in Columbia, S.C., and KTTU 18 in Tucson, Ariz. Good show, whoever you are! 71.255.235.123 19:34, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

And please note that this will not take the place of all the work that was done...the info on this site must still be verified. 71.255.235.123 23:40, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Source for KTTU: [2]. For some reason, Broadcasting and Cable did not pick up on this at all! Morgan Wick 01:57, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
The list linked above is created by Chip Kelley. Chip is the original founder of the 100000watts.com radio/TV directory website, and I'd consider it about as accurate as any list out there. MPWard 03:50, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Subchannel Bump

Fort Wayne, Ind.: WISE-TV's digital subchannel will receive the CW instead, leaving sister station WPTA to take the My Network TV affiliation, according to an April 23 article in the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly, although it requires a subscription.[3] Gatorman 14:26, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

WOLF to WILF!

The web link said the affiliation would go to WILF as opposed to WOLF-TV's digital carrier. Despite the template showing otherwise, WILF is licensed to Williamsport, just inside the Scranton-WB DMA. Gatorman 00:36, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Also, according to THIS link [4], WILF is a WB affiliate...hmmmmmm. Gatorman 00:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Nope, they must have made a mistake. WILF is a sattelite of WOLF, broadcasting on channel 53. Try this. You have to hit the stop button on your browser before it redirects. -Whomp 23:19, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Eh... I think there's something more here. Two different sources can't both be wrong, and I would hope MNTV knew what station it was affiliating with. User:Boothy443 changed the WILF article to indicate WILF is a satellite of WSWB, not WOLF, at the moment - and it could stop being such. (I know station-watching is the most dorky, crufty, you-need-mental-help thing in the universe, but you would think these sorts of press releases would go into some more detail on things!) Morgan Wick 05:06, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

In addition to the Tribune stations

B&C FINALLY (at around 7:45 pm PT, maybe closer to 5) has a story on the Tribune deal, including several other stations: [5]. I've added notation to most of the non-Tribune stations' articles involved, but haven't updated infoboxes, added categories, or updated the List. Morgan Wick 03:38, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Comparison chart?

There was a link to a comparison chart showing current WB and UPN, and future CW and My Network TV affiliates, side-by-side. I think the address was somewhere at EV1.net. I have noticed that it has disappeared. Please explain this, and, if possible, bring the link back.--Desmond Hobson 03:03, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Panic time?

Recent additions to List of My Network TV affiliates with the network's own affiliate list as a source and claims of other impending or even in-effect affiliations have me worried that the trade magazines have simply stopped reporting affiliation announcements... or worse, that CW and MyNet have stopped announcing them.

We should expect any new affiliations to show up on the affiliate lists on the respective networks' websites, but we can't expect them to be kept up to date.

Barring press releases just before network launch with complete affiliate lists, are we in a state where things may be progressing, we don't know about them, and we have no way to know about them? At this point, what are we supposed to do, barring an announcement from either network reported on a trade magazine's web site? Morgan Wick 01:32, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

There are other reliable sources we can use, if there are doubts about updates. 100000Watts.com, for example. It's updated regularly, and reliable. Comparing that site's lists with what we've got shouldn't be too difficult, IMO.--Firsfron of Ronchester 01:41, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
And don't forget about this site. --Firsfron of Ronchester 01:44, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
The most recent MyNet or CW related thing the former site added was MyNet's signing up with CBS-owned stations. The latter site seems to be coming along okay, and it appears to be taking a cue from the My Network TV web site.
The CW is still a problem... I don't know if it hasn't been updated or if there just haven't been any affiliation announcements. The most recently we've cited a link on that page is May 18... right around upfronts, when the site launched. But ignoring the no-update issue, the CW, unlike My Network TV, says "check local listings" when it's on a digital subchannel... the same thing it says when it has NO affiliation. If you're lucky, it'll have a web site as well, for the "base" station.
The trade papers may have decided to stop reporting affiliation announcements (or the CW may have decided to stop announcing them) when the web site launched, thinking people could just check the web site... which was a BIG mistake. The trade papers (or press releases) do a much better job of reporting these things than the CW's affiliate page does. Wikipedia is not a newspaper (the title of a maybe-coming-soon, possibly-to-be-written-by-me essay that may or may not actually be written), but I now worry that we may need to contact some people in power to see if there are affiliations we missed because they were never placed anywhere near our line of sight. And I don't mean the stations... I mean the network. If anyone has a better idea, I'm game. Morgan Wick 06:44, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
I suspect there won't be that [m]any more, as both are already near or past the 95% mark, and that perhaps right now each network only has one big hole (The CW with Hawaii, MyNetTV with OKC). That said, if MyNet closes OKC, or The CW with Hawaii, I think it will be significant enough for B&C to publish a story, and perhaps even for either two networks to fax off a PR. Local media for the smaller markets might have a story about affiliation should it happen at the last minute in filing stories about the launches of each network (i.e. look for a flurry of stories around Labor Day, and maybe a second flurry two weeks later). Perhaps also pinging some of the web-friendly media related journalists, if the network suits don't answer queries. —SterlingNorth 03:44, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, one of the sources for http://users4.ev1.net/~chipk/CW.html was Petry Media Corp, and checking out their website, there is a list of stations who are their clients, plus their affiliations (including future CW and MyNet affiliations)! [6] So perhaps we can sleuth out more ad agencies and find out who their clients are and what affiliations their stations will take. —SterlingNorth 03:59, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I got the new TV Guide today, and they had an ad for MyNetworkTV which featured a full affilate list in a Where to watch format (like CSI and 24 do for their syndicated station lists). I counted 166 listings on there, and 163 on the current list here, so I'm not sure if there's duplicates or why the lists don't match up evenly. I scanned it in and uploaded to see if we could use it as an extra reference (I don't know if it's proper to thumbnail or just link to the image, correct if wrong). I would think that The CW would also take out an ad like this when they get close to launch...Nate 06:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I added some stations but I was left scratching my head at the mention of KIMT without a DT indicator. Morgan Wick 19:10, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Some of the ad's channel numbers are also wrong or go by the more hyped cable channel assignment (XHDTV-TV on cable 13 for instance, not OTA 49). Thankfully calls are much more important than numbers. Nate 20:57, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
MyNet has added KAUT to its web site... nothing. The CW might already have a Hawaii affiliate that we don't know about. AAUGH! I can't wait for any "magazine ad", I need to know now, I need to know everything now, and I need to keep knowing, dammit! Morgan Wick 18:55, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Sent out an email via KAUT's website, hopefully they answer. And someone announce an affiliate for Hawaii already, you'd think we'd have a Wikipedian on the islands that might know where it's going. Or a station which at least throws it on a DT2 at minimum. Even Puerto Rico has an affiliate, and they aren't even a state! Nate 20:57, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Ten minutes and KAUT emailed me right back...

Me - Is it true you'll be carrying the network in September? The network's website shows your station as an affiliate.'

Stacy Johnson of KAUT - Yes, that is correct.

[7] And out of the blue, an official announcement. CW, take a hint. Morgan Wick 20:49, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Also, Cynthia Turner who does a media trade publication has posted an Excel spreadsheet of affiliates for MyNetworkTV and The CW. She says the info comes from MyNetworkTV people. SterlingNorth 01:56, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

However, that list may not be completely up to date... I know it is missing some call letter changes SterlingNorth 02:02, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

New Station WMYG-LP?

Digging around the Petry Media Corp site above, I found a mention of a station — WMYG — serving as the MYT affiliate for Gainesville. Fortunately, a Google Search for WMYG Gainesville does turn up enough hits to discover that it is a (possible) future station that is going to be run out of WGFL. (Thank goodness for a My11 Gaineville graphic at the bottom of WGFL's website. I was debating with myself as to if that is enough evidence, but I did add WBMM using significantly less evidence, so in fairness, I'm adding WMYG to this list as well. SterlingNorth 05:10, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Maybe not yet.. There is an entry in the FCC database for WMYG-LP on channel 11, and I suspect that will be where MyNetTV will reside, I will hold off on changing the entry for Gainesville (which states that MYNet will go one WGFL's digital subchannel) until more info can be found. SterlingNorth 05:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Found the additional information... it appears that WMYG's original call letters were WLCF (licenseed to Lake City Florida). That is the station listed in the press release along with WGFL's digital subchannel as being the Gainesville affiliate. I presume it will be a simulcast.—SterlingNorth 05:21, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

WTOK to Air MNTV as Secondary Affiliate

WTOK's program guide is showing that MNTV programming will air on its Fox subchannel following Fox primetime. [8] (You may have to search for 9/5 at 9:00 PM) -- Lee359 07:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Current affiliations in chart

The chart column listing most current affilations of MyNetworkTV stations as being MNTV is redundant and meaningless information. With MNTV an active network as of today, the column should list the stations' former network affiliations. EvWill 12:15, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Done, and you're right. Nate 23:21, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Where are affiliates below 143?

This is no longer a complete list, and whoever compiled it to add the listings below market 143 back to the chart. Also, reformat it correctly.--Desmond Hobson 22:36, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Whoever it was, thank you. I guess someone was working it out anyway!--Desmond Hobson 22:43, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
The article was vandalized, I reverted it back to its proper version. No problem and hey, you beat me to the talk page! : ) --Squeak 22:49, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
