Tables

[edit]

Should the tables be sortable by the year columns? Not sure this works/helps. Rich Farmbrough, 23:02, 16 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Rendering time etc.

I still have trouble with "my" article List of Michelin starred restaurants in the Netherlands. If I change anything and try to save it, it ends up as a Wikimedia error. But if I open the article in another window, the edit has gone through. Not a clue what causes this. It is a 74Kb article, not too big as far as I know. I get that from time to time. But just muddle through... Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:17, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
At a guess it is because of the large number of templates on the page, I get the same problem on pages with a large number of {{coord}} templates on it. Keith D (talk) 19:32, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The stars images expand to 3 images per year per restaurant. There are probably better 1,2,3 of 3 star images you could use (they certainly exist for "n of 5" and "n of 10" stars). This would cut the size of the HTML by almost 2/3, and the page would not then take 18 seconds to serve. Rich Farmbrough, 21:50, 16 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]
PrimeHunter has made a good start to fixing this through template magic. Rich Farmbrough, 21:56, 16 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]
Images used as described, page now served faster and is much smaller :). Rich Farmbrough, 23:00, 16 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]
I have replaced the star-template by one stolen from the Dutch WP newly built. It makes the article bigger, but I have the idea that it loads much quicker. Can somebody test that? Night of the Big Wind talk 21:39, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Serving time is labelled as fast, but it appeared to load much slower, presumably due to the size. The fix by Primehunter means that no parameters are used and the rendering engine can cache the rendered templates instead of having to re-compute them every time. The fix by me reduced the number of images on the page by about 1/3, which massively reduces the number of images on the page. Your version goes part way, since it doesn't represent the missing stars, but 2 stars are still 2 images - clearly if people are not aware that it is a 3-star system (as I wasn't for some time) this information is lost. You can re-introduce these benefits by creating or finding 2 and 3 star Michelin images and either calling your new template through three wrappers, or splitting it into three, this sill retains your star-sortability, however cunningly chosen image-names probably do this too. There may be other optimisations. You should also consider the accessibility issues of filling a table with stars. Rich Farmbrough, 20:49, 21 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]
Using newly acquiered knowledge I have created three new images of Michelin stars. The are now three jpg'sGIF's representing one, two or three stars. So every template has to load just one picure. Hope this works better. Night of the Big Wind talk 15:43, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chronological order

[edit]

What's the issue with reversing the order? It makes sense to have the current first rather than scrolling to the end. Also, no editor need permission to make changes, and changes do NOT need to be discussed first, per BRD. Spleodrach (talk) 09:06, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And why would you change that order? Just to make a point? The Banner talk 09:54, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You should assume good faith. I edit articles in order to improve. I think readers would like to see the current Michelin starred restaurants first, not a table mostly long closed restaurants from the 1950s/60s. If they want to see the history, then scroll down. The current table should be first like the lead/intro in an article, then the detailed history follows on from that. Spleodrach (talk) 17:48, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"You should assume good faith." Good idea, I hoop to see that from you too. The Banner talk 22:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the most recent information makes sense to be at the top which is consistent with other Michelin-starred pages. I'll post this on the Michelin task force page and get consensus and add to the style guide. Expandinglight5 (talk) 18:42, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add A Fact: "De Librije sole Dutch three-star restaurant"

[edit]

I found a fact that might belong in this article. See the quote below

De Librije nu enige Nederlandse restaurant met drie sterren

The fact comes from the following source:

Here is a wikitext snippet to use as a reference:
