Capitalization

There's an on-and-off discussion at Talk:LEGO about this. Presently, that article uses standard English capitalization, ie "Lego". Wikipedia style guidelines are to "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment". --Mairi 23:19, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Spiderman

I don't know enough about Lego releases or anything like that to actually input it, but theres no mention of Spiderman Lego here, which I'm pretty sure has been through at least 2 series. Any reason for this, or is it just an oversight? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.68.229.6 (talkcontribs) 12:02, 24 September 2006

Modular Houses Theme

On Dec. 15 GoTLG removed Lego Modular Houses theme from the list saying: "Modlular houes don't have a theme name within Lego product line. They are part of the Lego Factory theme/system." Actually, only one of the sets in the series (Market Street) has been released under the Lego Factory theme. The rest (Cafe Corner and Green Grocer) don't seem to have a theme officially on the Lego.com site. In the winter catalog they were listed on a "Favorites" page along with the Eiffel Tower. On Brickset.com it appears that Modular Houses is listed as a subtheme under "Exclusives & Treasures" as well as under "Factory". Given that, I suggest that we add "Modular Houses" as a subtheme under Factory (which is already on this page) as well as adding a new "Exclusives & Treasures" them with "Modular Houses" again as a subtheme. Likewise, we should rename Lego Modular Houses Theme to just Modular Houses and make the former a redirect. I'm going to go ahead and make these changes. Please, if you disagree with them, lets discuss before quietly undoing anything. Thanks! --SkotywaTalk 03:49, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

On the 'List of themes' section the 'Modular Houses' were repeated twice under two areas. There is no need to list them twice. Not to make it sound confusing, its like listing 'Lego Castle' and 'Castle'. Brickset.com is a good fan site, but its not the official source. The use of the terms "Exclusives & Treasures" is a sales or Marketing way to promote items online, and through the catalog magazine. It is not a theme or system. As for the use of 'Modular Houses', I would keep as a subtheme under Lego Factory or have its own section under the 'list of themes'. Regarding to the use of 'Modular Houses' on Wikipedia the page should mention or say 'Lego Modlular Houses'. From the point of view a 'user', searching It would be easier to search on Wikipedia. I hope this helps. GoTLG 05:43, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

GoTLG said: "Brickset.com is a good fan site, but its not the official source." So what is the "official source" you're basing this off of? Maybe if you point me at that it won't be so confusing.
GoTLG said: "As for the use of 'Modular Houses', I would keep as a subtheme under Lego Factory or have its own section under the 'list of themes'." I added "Lego Modular Houses Theme" first and you just quietly removed that saying they're part of Lego Factory. I agreed one of the sets (Market Street) is part of Lego Factory, but the others (Cafe Corner and Green Grocer, and a 2009 set) clearly are not. They are all Modular Houses though. I provided you links as a basis for my next actions which were to add "Modular Houses" as a subtheme to Factory as well as adding "Exclusives and Treasures" with "Modular Houses" as a subtheme there. You've reverted these as well. So in the end, what is it that you want? Are you saying that "Modular Houses" should just be listed as a full theme now?
GoTLG said: "The use of the terms "Exclusives & Treasures" is a sales or Marketing way to promote items online, and through the catalog magazine." I'm not sure I agree that "Exclusives & Treasures" is just a marketing gimic. If it were, what theme would you place the Eiffel Tower and Taj Mahal sets in for example? Lego Factory? That seems wrong. If you read this article you'll find that Jamie Berard (a Lego designer) refers to a "Lego Direct" series or theme that Cafe Corner and Green Grocer were released under and he clearly states that Market Street was the only Modular House released under Lego Factory. Should we maybe add "Lego Direct"? Would you consider the words of a Lego designer an "official source" in this discussion?
Again, what would really help is for you to point me at your "official source" since the one's I'm finding clearly aren't meeting the bar. --SkotywaTalk 04:01, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
You know, now that I've had time to think about this a little more, it really doesn't matter to me where 'Modular Houses' is listed on the themes page, just that it's listed. You're welcome to police this list of Lego themes off of whatever sources, opinions, or whims you choose. I'm just asking that Modular Houses be listed and linked to as a theme or subtheme somewhere in the list. That's true right now so I'm happy. You can move it to be listed as an independent theme rather than a subtheme of Factory if you like (my preference), but in the end, either way will likely get users to the right place. Okay, I've got to stop now. Thanks for reading. --SkotywaTalk 07:17, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

I have been thinking about it and I am sorry for causing a problem. I will say this, it is not easy to explain it. I am not trying to get into a argument. I am not gonna into great detail, it will make it worst. The page should be called 'Lego Modular Houses', like 'Lego Space', 'Lego Castle' on Wikipedia since the words 'Modular Houses' is a very general term that applies like real life modular houses. Also, I would think be easier for some one searching on Wikipedia. The only problem is the list of themes of 'Exclusives & Treasures', Modular Houses and 'Lego Factory'. Since they each have something or set in common. I don't know if this helps? Thanks. GoTLG

Re-organisation

I've made a start at re-organising this list to make it easier to read and navigate, with the aim of (hopefully) having it be a featured list. Here's a summary of what I've done:

  • Organised the themes into sections. The sections are the main 'evergreen' themes: Lego City, Lego Space, Lego Pirates, Lego Castle. Then a list of licensed themes. Then a list of the the other story-based themes. Then a list of the non-story-based themes (Creator, Mosaic, etc). Then finally a list of the Junior (mainly Duplo) themes. There's probably still room for improvement.
  • Added an explanatory sentence to many of the themes, so that the article isn't simple a list of names.
  • Made the theme names italic rather than bold (as per WS:MOS).
  • Fixed a few links and merged some theme names together where they are simply a re-naming and not a whole new theme.

Still to-do:

  • Re-order themes in alphabetical order within sections?
  • Add brief sentence for all themes.
  • Write better introductions for the sections.
  • Check for completeness.
