"Intersex" sourcing

[edit]

This entire section seems problematically sourced to me. Bear in mind that the articles on the two Paris-games boxers are regarded as so BLP-sensitive that their talk pages have been semi-protected, never mind the articlespace. We shouldn't be including wikivoice flat determinations that these, or indeed anyone else is "intersex" without top-quality sources unambiguously saying so. Ideally, multiple such. I'm going to tag these for now, but removal might be a more appropriate response given policy in this area. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 16:22, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, based on discussions that aren't recent, but more heightened given the unfortunate controversy about the boxers in Paris, I've been working on Draft:Sex verification and intersex athletes at the Olympic Games. This gives much more context, frames the issue as being around how and why athletes have been affected (rather than the athletes themselves), and should be able to replace both the list here and the standalone listicle.
I would note that most of the examples came from the category Category:Intersex sportspeople, so while an overhaul of how Wikipedia deals with it would be a big task, broad-strokes categories may be one thing that can be more quickly improved. Kingsif (talk) 21:13, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The category might, oddly, be less problematic, as while sometimes editors can be guilty of 'cat and run' without sourcing or integrating with the article text, in these cases it seems like the individual articles are getting close attention and BLP scrutiny, whereas ad hoc lists that simply link to them ca sneak under the radar. As things stand matters have been entirely satisfactorily dealt with, thank you. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 16:09, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
