Early speeds
[edit]I was about too look at my stuff to find the speeds for the 3 early pole winners, but you got it there before I could fill it in, which is good. For the 1911 race, they actually did record the times, but I think they are lost forever. Doctorindy 20:25, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- If we know how many laps were for qualification, a time can be calculated easily. I know they did 10 laps (25 miles) in the 1930's. Not sure about the teens and 20's. I'll look around. --Mycroft.Holmes 20:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I should have read more closely before I wrote the comment above. Didn't notice you were referring to 1911 only. Oops! --Mycroft.Holmes 20:40, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- The 1911 race had the requirement to run at or above 75 mph for a quarter-mile distance down the mainstretch, not a full lap. The times for those quarter-mile runs were probably recorded, but were destroyed by the AAA in the days after the Harroun/Mulford controversy. --Chr.K. 03:27, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- For 1911, it was a one-mile segment of the track that started in turn four and continued down most of the mainstrech. Since unofficial scoring from the first race surfaced, qualifying times might someday surface, but it's doubtful. If I recall correctly, every car that made a run passed the 75 mph test, and the only cars entered that did not race were cars that never arrived. Doctorindy 17:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Still messy
[edit]I'm looking at this page, with all different colors, and it's hard for someone to follow the simple year-by-year list of the pole winners. I think that putting the "fast qualifiers" in the list as they are just serves to confuse and overwhelm the casual reader. I think they they should be simply moved the "Notes" column. The information will still be there, and easy to see, in the same row, without double lines for each of those years causing confusion. Also, I'm going to curtail some of the colors too.
