Talk:List of Gran Torino characters
This page was proposed for deletion by 76.82.142.96 (talk · contribs) on 4 December 2023 with the comment: "Unnecessary in light of source references" It was contested by Mushy Yank (talk · contribs) on 2023-12-04 with the comment: Not uncontroversial. Should the page's deletion be considered, at least an Afd is warranted, in my view (and unless I am very much mistaken, the page creator at least should have been informed of the ProD) |

Alternate interpretations and Undue weight
[edit]About the following:
- Schein, Louisa and Va-Megn Thoj. "Gran Torino’s Boys and Men with Guns: Hmong Perspectives." (Archive) Hmong Studies Journal. Volume 10. p. 25-26. Retrieved on March 16, 2012.
- "Gran Torino's Hmong Lead Bee Vang on Film, Race and Masculinity Conversations with Louisa Schein, Spring, 2010." (Archive) Hmong Studies Journal. (northern hemisphere) Spring 2010. Volume 11. p. 4.
Remember that the authors of the first one acknowledge that the mainstream response is "centered on Eastwood‘s character and viewed the film mainly as a vision of multicultural inclusion and understanding." and that the alternate one they explore in this article is "alternate ―ethnotextual approach, reflecting the conversations of a Hmong studies anthropologist and a Hmong filmmaker/activist, includes the perspectives of Hmong involved in creating the film and considers critical response to the final product within the Hmong community." - So we know that the majority (not the majority ethnic group, but rather the majority of people who commented about the film) took the former, while a minority (not the minority ethnic group, but a minority of people who commented about the film) took the latter.
Also keep in mind that while it is important to state Bee Vang's views, from my understanding I have not seen a lot of mainstream media commentary on that, or people in the mainstream media who agree with his point of view.
Remember to please make sure that the article gives more weight to the former than the later. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view#Due_and_undue_weight makes it clear that the majority perspective should be given more weight than the minority perspective. It says "Wikipedia should not present a dispute as if a view held by a small minority deserved as much attention overall as the majority view." Jimbo makes it clear in a mailing list post here
That means the majority Clint Eastwood-focused commentary etc. will likely ultimately carry more weight than the "alternate" interpretations espoused by Vang, Schein, and/or Thoj in this article. We should include them, but we should not give them too much prominence. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:37, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, now I've added a lot of material about Walt, so I can see if I can add more about Thao and Sue. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:33, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Another article about Bee Vang and relation with other actors

"List of"
[edit]I tried to change this from "List of Gran Torino Characters" to just "Gran Torino." Putting "List of" is redundant since we know the entry of TV characters introduced in 2008 is comprised entirely of lists of characters. However, I can't get it to change on that page. So, could someone who knows how, please do so? Thank you. Rissa, copy editor (talk) 00:54, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
