Sources
[edit]I have sourced the list in accordance with Wikipedia's Original Research and Verifiability policies. Basically, anyone described by a reliable source as "Danish" or "Danish-American" (i.e. as opposed to "of Danish descent", "Danish mother", etc.) is on the list. Here are the people I couldn't find anything for. If you have a reliable source that fits that please restore the names:
- Samuel Sorenson Adams - inventor
- Jack Anderson - newspaper columnist
- Gwili Andre - definitely Danish, but was she an American citizen?
- Charles Gustav Binderup - Democratic politician
- Eva Le Gallienne
- Michael Madsen
- Christian Mortensen - supercentenarians
- Richard Nielsen - researcher
- Hjalmar Petersen - politician
- William Petersen
- Gale Sondergaard
Mad Jack O'Lantern 08:13, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- The only names off that list that count as Danish Americans are Jack Anderson, Michael Madsen, William Petersen, and Gale Sondergaard. The others are simply Danish. They've all been checked, though, and I added the appropriate ones. Thanks for offering the list! Beginning 23:02, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Qualifications
[edit]Just wanted to note that future editors should keep in mind that to be Danish American means to be born in the United States to Danish ancestry. Although there are plenty of natives Danes who have become famous working or living in the United States, they are Danish, not Danish American. People born in Denmark or elsewhere should not be added to this list. Beginning 20:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Nonsense. US citizenship certainly provides the "Qualifications" for an immigrant to be considered American. Since March 15, 2009, the lead sentence of this article states clearly:
- "This is a list of notable Danish Americans, including both original immigrants who obtained American citizenship and their American-born descendants."

Sourcing
[edit]I have spent entirely too much of my day on this article as well as Danish Americans, but things are now much tidier. This entire page, except for Julie Bond and Lis Wiehl, have now been ref'ed. I've heard Wiehl say before that her mother's Danish, so there must be a cite out there somewhere if someone wants to find it.
Please keep the spirit of this going. Make sure new additions are properly ref'ed and listed. Thank you! Beginning 23:02, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Massive blanking

[edit]See [1]. A vast number of individuals were removed from the article as "unsourced," but most of which had sources, including the Internet Movie Database and other reputable sources. Such a mode of editing amounts to WP:Vandalism. Please restore the text and use "fact" tags to improve, rather than deplete our articles, which have been laboriously built up over a period of years. Thank you for this consideration. Badagnani (talk) 05:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
- The sources described a parent as Danish or a grandparent as Danish. This is not enough because we cannot make the qualifications for who is Danish American. It needs to be written on publication as such. Bulldog123 (talk) 05:42, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
So there are three choices here.
- We delete the list - This was tried. It succeeded, but you and your cronies brought it back, pointlessly.
- We prune it until (if ever) the correct sources are found. It is not relevant to put a Danish-American who spoke Danish, moved to the United States, and contributed to the Danish American culture, in the same list as someone like Eliza Dushku, who probably doesn't know where Denmark is on a map.
- We redirect it to the main page Danish American, where I set up a brief but important section for Danish Americans.
You've rejected all three of the see proposals (possibly merely as a show of power) and have not created a new one - preferring to just leave sloppy lists lying around for years. Sorry, but I don't accept that, and neither does the policy, WP:V. Most importantly, it is not vandalism to move a page that has been idly sitting. It's justified under WP:BOLD, and harassing me into submission by leaving vandalism warnings on my talk page isn't acceptable. Bulldog123 (talk) 18:47, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

His last name seems familiar
[edit]Im talking about Peter Sarsgaard, who I added a long time and has been preserved in the category and not been removed His last name, and without doubt is Nordic, his heritage so, but which coutry ? Denmark or Norway (I exclude sweden because the form of "gaard" are "gård") So I added it in Denmark. any rejection or discussion will be posted here, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.251.7.52 (talk) 07:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Sourcing restored
[edit]Restored extensive sourcing removed here. Per the header of Danish American,
“ | Danish Americans (Danish: Dansk-Amerikanere) are people born or naturalized in the United States with Danish ancestry. There are approximately 1,500,000 Americans of Danish origin or descent. | ” |
