April 2009 changes

My rationale:

  1. "Empire" always included the Dominions and was not used to mean only Crown Colonies.
  2. The British Empire officially became the British Commonwealth in 1926. (Commonwealth of Nations from 1949.)
  3. The Indian Empire had a status distinct from both the Dominions and the Crown Colonies.
  4. Regiments (etc) are not divisions

I think that the changes were a mistake. The term British Empire was widely used in World War II and I think it was useful to have an article that lists those divisions from other places within the Empire that were not from the dominions. -- PBS (talk) 04:21, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
