Musical Allusions

[edit]

I've been trying to go through and fill out what remains left over from the allusions Kadono-sensei makes, and made a few changes to the ones previously there, namely the removing John Mellencamps 'Scarecrow' reference in favor of the Pink Floyd, as the Piper at the Gates of Dawn is specifically mentioned in that book, hence much more likely to be a reference to that song.

Also another thing is that I think I finally cracked the 'Embryo' reference, but I'm not going to put it on there in case I've totally go it wrong, but its neither of the ones posted out there. Instead Embryo (band) seems much likely in my opinion. They are super obscure, they sound like many of the other bands Kadono uses heavily (Specifically King Crimson), and there output derives largely in part from the early 70s progressive rock scene which Kadono (and admittedly me) is a huge fan of, having used King Crimson, Pink Floyd and ELP over and over again. What actually sealed the idea of Embryo being the reference outside of musical and chronological similarity, was that they have an album 'Fathers Sons & Holy Ghosts' which then would simultaneously fill in the blanks for the 'Holy & Ghost' novels.

I'll refrain from adding any of that in until some other opinions chime in, but of course, I really have no clue who checks this... Maybe Doceiras or Elric? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SubtleBoom (talkcontribs) 03:03, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely appreciate the resources, even if I'm no longer translating the series. That type of music is a bit of a blind spot for me (anything not in Rock Band sort of is) and it's hard to research just by googling it. I'd suggest avoiding the word "trivia" though. No prob at all, and thanks for the speedy reply. Good idea about removing the word 'trivia' from it, I'll get on that sometime as well as doing some of Kadono's references outside of the BP series, Outlandos D'amour being an album by The Police etc. I also am very keen on finally doing a page for Vol. 6, since I know you can't do it due to conflict of interest and no one else seems to give a shit about it being a blaring hole. On a side note, Rock Band has some good tunes, nothing to be ashamed of. Oh and my bad for spelling your name wrong above, I check Easternstandard and your blog enough to not have made that mistake. (Yes, I'm a goddamn creeper/lurker). SubtleBoom (talk) 04:45, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
