Contested deletion
[edit]This page is not unambiguously promotional, because it gives the basic information needed to know about any Operating System/Appplication. It's the same as OpenELEC. LibreELEC is Open-Source. There's no promotion involved. --Phedoreanu (talk) 17:48, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- +1 I concur @Phedoreanu: .. the world benefits IMHO from articles like this. I vote, Keep! -From Peter {a.k.a. Vid2vid (talk | contribs)} 05:52, 9 January 2021 (UTC).
Kernel
[edit]According to https://libreelec.tv/2017/02/libreelec-krypton-v8-0-0-release Libreelec 8.0.0 is based on kernel 3.10 (arm) and 3.14 (aarch64). I am not familiar with editing tables but maybe someone else could add this information... regards Rai 85.176.128.161 (talk) 08:48, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- I wonder how useful it is having the kernel information anyway as it differs between platforms --Onco p53 (talk) 11:19, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
But Based On *Which* .. Exact Linux?!
[edit]I understand from its official website, and from this article, that this OS is based on Linux; it further says it is a derivation of Kodi; however, not so fast--- Kodi is merely a software, as shown by a reference link at the bottom of the WP article basically showing for further reading. Kodi is **not** a Linux flavor, like Debian, Ubuntu, Manjaro, Arch, RedHat (RIP CentOS), SUSE, seLinux, ..the list goes on for dozens of items!! Does anyone know, and if they do would they please (!!) write this into the InfoBox at the top of the article, upon which actual Linux that this OS is based?? Thank you. -From Peter {a.k.a. Aha. DistroWatch (external site) distinguishes the following: Based on: Independent (forked from OpenELEC) ..and further says, Default Desktop: Kodi. -From Peter {a.k.a. Vid2vid (talk | contribs)} 05:59, 9 January 2021 (UTC).
Little late to answer, but FYI, LibreELEC is a "software appliance" that is its own Linux distribution (Linux distro). So it is "Linux-based" as in it is based on the Linux Kernel and packages for Linux but it is not a derivate or fork of any other Linux distribution, if you do not count OpenELEC. It works like an "Embedded Linux" for "Media center" appliance purposes, so in a way it is similar to how OpenWrt is for basis for wireless routers, however LibreELEC uses Kodi (formerly XBMC) as a UI frontend instead of a classic desktop environment fo Linux. 83.216.118.235 (talk) 08:41, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
