The origin of a family name
[edit]The article wrongly claim that Gielgud (Lithuanian original name Gelgaudas or Gedgaudas) originates from the place name Gelgaudiškis. Actually it is the other way around - Gelgaudiškis got it's name after the owner of the early 15th century fief and castle of Jurgis Gedgaudas https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Jurgis_Gedgaudas. The first mentioning of the place is in 1504 as Gedigaudiškis. Since the end of 16th century the name morphed to Gelgaudiškis, which was easier to pronounce. https://lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelgaudi%C5%A1kis Gedgaudas is a typical two-stem Lithuanian name. The same way Radviliškis is named after Radvila https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Radvili%C5%A1kis, and Giedraičiai - after Giedraitis names https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Giedrai%C4%8Diai 89.117.10.9 (talk) 15:00, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
