Carlin influence

Stale
 – No further interest in topic in 4 years.

Lewis Black sounds a lot like George Carlin was an influence on him. -- THEBlunderbuss 12:08, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Libertarian claim

Resolved
 – No source for claim, and Black himself says he's a socialist. Being anti-authoritarian doesn't make one necessarily a libertarian.
Is there a source for Black being a libertarian?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.185.213.33 (talkcontribs) 14:04, May 5, 2006
Sorry, I don't see that the article says that he is.--Deville (Talk) 19:20, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
It's in the categories section. I haven't verified yet, I'll try soon, but it could be wrong/unverifiable for all I know. --TM 21:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Oh, too right. Yeah, if we don't have some verification of this it should go.--Deville (Talk) 22:53, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Update: I did this search and as far as I can tell there is no relevant link. I think we should probably remove the category from this page.--Deville (Talk) 22:59, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
I just removed it. Once someone finds a source it can go back. --TM 16:26, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. I looked through the cat and there are a lot of people in that list. I think I might go through that cat and see who really belongs there. --Deville (Talk) 21:55, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Cited in The Nation

I don't recall the template name for this, but this article was cited in a Nation editorial on 12 June 2006. --Stlemur 16:18, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

gay marriage

i changed the sentance "apathy towards gay marriage" to "no opposition to gay marriage" because in 'red, white, and screwed', Black has a rant in which he makes it clear that he cannot fathom the arguments of those who oppose gay marriage, and adds that in this day in age there should be no tolerance for those who wish to ban it. personal life

I'm not sure he lives in Chapel Hill, NC. I live in Chapel Hill and I know that he went to school here, but I think I would know if he lives here.

Is Lewis Married? Kids?

Doesn't he has Parkinson's disease? In his stand up he is always shaking his hands and in Last laugh he mumbled words

I've never heard anything to that effect, I'm sure the hands are a supplement to his comedic style, and maybe he was off his game a bit at last laugh. His appearences on the Daily Show, for instance, are usually much more subdued, and he seems to have no trouble there. (Also, please sign your posts, &c.) Vbdrummer0 04:45, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

That's just part of his character. If you doubt me, then clearly you don't get pissed off enough.Mustang6172 05:53, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
He was married and divorced his then wife had a relationship prior to marriage and presented him with a child that wasn't

Socialist?

I was just wondering where it has been stated that Black is a Socialist? I've never heard anything of the sort said, and was just curious.--SpudHawg948 (talk) 12:48, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

There's a quote in the second paragraph in the Comedic Style section. --TM 16:03, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

On the bio on Lewis Black's site lewisblack.net it states he was born in Washington DC and raised in Silver Spring. The article cited for giving his birthplace as Silver Spring only says that he was raised there. Are there any other sources citing either place as his place of birth?

Sure -- the first sentence of his autobiography, Nothing's Sacred, says he was born in Washington, DC. That's about as authoritative as it's going to get. -/- Warren 08:16, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Red State Diaries

What ever happened to the Lewis Black's Red State Diaries show that he was working on ? Dowew (talk) 04:13, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I just watched "Red, White and Screwed" again and he says he was born in Silver Spring MD, but tells people he is from Washington DC as "... if you say you're from Silver Spring, people think you're a pussy!" Jdd204 (talk) 11:49, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

If we have to pick, then let's go with his published autobiography, which better meets Wikipedia's requirements of Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources than one of his stand-up shows. -/- Warren 17:32, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Senate

Is lewis black running for office? I can't find a source, but I heard it on the radio. Anybody know anything? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.220.163.23 (talk) 18:01, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Published books

I find it odd that Black's publication are listed in this way. He's only written two books, but the first one shows up in the list as the original, the audio book, and the paperback editions. It's uncommon to do so - though audiobooks read by Black himself may warrant inclusion. I say we remove the paperback edition (no sense in listing every print of a book, is there?). Also, his latest book (Me of Little Faith) has an audiobook version read by Black. Stefan Kruithof (talk) 09:10, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Reply to "Categories"

Lewis Black stated on Larry King Live that he is NOT an agnostic NOR an atheist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.126.116.200 (talk) 03:00, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Categories

One of the categories Lew is listed under is "Atheists", which I firmly believe is incorrect. Next, it's noted that he was an actor on Law & Order. Somehow, I don't see the connection. If he was a guest star, I don't see the significant pertinence of categorizing him as such. --EMC 02:45, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

By the way, I changed "Atheists" to "Agnostics", removed the Law & Order categories, removed the American Comedian category (since he's already categorized as a Jewish American Comedian"), and replaced his state of birth category. --EMC 02:59, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Why do you say you think he's not an atheist? A few of his standup routines certainly suggest he is, particularly when he says he was "born Jewish" (as opposed to simply "Jewish"). --Saforrest 16:11, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

On "The End of the Universe," Black states that he has "no religion...I was born and raised Jewish, and that didn't work, and then I went to some of the others, and went, eh, f--- it." 12 April 2008

Someone labeled him an atheist based on his being mentioned at [1], but in an interview [2] he states clearly that he isn't one now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Othersider (talkcontribs) 02:46, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Birthplace change

Lewis Black stated in Red, White, and Screwed that he was actually born in Silver Springs, Maryland. I went ahead and changed it, and will add a source when I find one. J DIGGITY SPEAKS 20:04, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Quote

Quote: "Why is this chair so d*** uncomfortable?! And could ya turn those f****** lights down a little?!" Unquote. And he said on the 8th he did get anger on little things, yeah right. Lucas Duke (talk) 15:08, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Kudos

"Lewis Black's style of comedy is that of a man who, in dealing with the absurdities of life and contemporary politics, is approaching his personal limits of sanity. Sarcasm, hyperbole, profanity, shouting and trademark angry finger-shaking bring emphasis to his topics of discussion."

My sincerest congratulations to the editor(s) who formulated this bit. A more fitting description would be hard to come by. C1k3 (talk) 05:44, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I agree with C1k3; awesome job! Paragoalie (talk) 15:32, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Someone added a reference to his book, Me of Little Faith, mentioning that the death of his brother was a factor in his becoming an atheist. I just went through the book again, and I don't believe this is true. He talks about being around his brother after he died, and says he felt like he was still there with him. Later in the book, he lists several reasons that he might believe in God and why he might not, and the death of his brother is on there, but there are 20-odd items on each list. Several times in the book, as well as in some interviews (like the one cited above), he specifically mentions he isn't one. At the very least, if this bit is relevant and true (I think this is insufficient given its context), I think it should be reworked to mention he isn't one now. I haven't made the change yet, as I wanted to see what others think. Anyone else have an opinion on the matter? Othersider (talk) 02:50, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Okay, no one's indicated one way or the other. I looked through Me of Little Faith again, and Nothing's Sacred. Whenever he talks about his brother, he suggests that he's not really gone, and actually claims his brother talked to him through a medium. As I think it's misleading, I removed the bit about his brother, and I fixed the citation for his marriage, which is in Nothing's Sacred, not Me of Little Faith. Page tag

"What do you mean, this page reads like a resume? Are you crazy?"

No, I'm not. This is what I meant: This article does not read like an encyclopedic entry. There is little discussion of Black's style, what his comedy consists of, how other critics view him, what his importance is, how he has influenced other comedians, etc.

All it is is a list of TV shows he's done, records he put out, tour dates he has done. I'm not sure what it'd be called for a comedian, but it is like a Discography or Filmography which is, basically, a list of things that have happened. It's very superficial.

There is no analysis, no discussion of the significance of this person, why he is notable. It shouldn't be hard to get this information as Black is brilliant and I'm sure there are dozens of profiles in NYTimes, LATimes, NY Mag, etc. over the past 15 years.

For an example of a more well-rounded comedian bio, see Bill Hicks. Liz Read! Talk! 09:22, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Old Yeller, DVD / Broadcast Live when it was being recorded

Lewis Black's 9th Stand-Up special to date Old Yeller: Live at the Borgata was broadcast live when it was recorded in August 2013. I feel as though this should be mentioned in the "Stand-Up" portion of his article. It appears there isn't anyone who updates his page with his most recent activity. It would be cool if someone could. Here is the official source from Deadline.com. 98.110.5.128 (talk) 02:58, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Cleanup on Recent Career

I added the cleanup tag because a brief look at this article shows that some of the stuff listed in this section is listed elsewhere (like in the "Selected Film Appearances" list) and thus is redundant, and some of it just isn't notable at all. If I get time I will do it myself eventually, but I figured I'd tag it in case someone else wants to do it first. --Ig8887 (talk) 20:12, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

He appears to have contradicted himself in the show Red, White and Screwed, as he said he was born in Silver Spring...little confusing when two different things are coming from the same guy. --Joshmaul (talk) 10:13, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

"Mental breakdown"?

From the introductory paragraph: "he often simulates having a mental breakdown" ...

Really? Where? I've listened to dozens of his routines, and viewed dozens more, and never heard or seen him 'simulate having a mental breakdown'.

If a reference can be produced for this statement, it needs to be in the article. Otherwise, the statement should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.249 (talk) 00:01, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Age not processed properly by wikipedia

For whatever reason this article shows his birthdate as August 30th, 1948 but says his age is 69 years old as of today which is August 31st, 2018. This has nothing to do with timezones either, it's past the 30th now everywhere in the world. From what I could see from trying to edit the article itself it seems as though it's coded the way anyone's age should be but the page is just not displaying properly...why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Luscious duncan (talkcontribs) 05:43, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
