Reassessment

[edit]

I've reassessed the article as meeting the Start-class guidelines. It is, however, pretty close to a B-class article.

The problems that I saw: The "Stadium Design" section uses an odd mix of tenses, including "was" and "will". It is also very unclear if this was only the design for the new (2006?) San Francisco stadium, or might also be recycled to used for the Santa Clara stadium design. [Also: Was there a different design intended for the 1997 version?]

Also: The "2006 plan" section looks to me if it is really two plans, the initial San Francisco plan, and the later Santa Clara plan.

If these issues are cleared up, the article should be ready for a B-class rating. BlankVerse 06:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted this article to have an emphasis on the 2006 plan and the current slated stadium design, yet also provide a historical perspective on the 49ers' need for a new stadium by discussing the 1997 initiative. Do you have any ideas on how that could be structured better? -- ßίζ·קּ‼ (talk | contribs) 02:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Section "Monster Park is obsolete"

[edit]

There is some bias and unsourced information in this small section of the article that needs to be addressed.

It is obsolete. It is basically a baseball stadium with a football field. Seatings along what used to be the right foul line are now blocked by the east grandstand for football games as well as steel beams supporting the upper deck obstructing sight lines of seats on the lower deck.

It is also the oldest stadium in the NFL that has not been renovated or replaced. Heck, even Soldier Field and Lambeau Field, stadiums that are older than Monster Park, have been renovated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.246.84.57 (talk) 08:04, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As of November 2007 this article is completely inaccurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.28.234 (talk) 03:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the old age of the stadium really the reason why the 49ers are worth half what the Reskins are worth? Somehow, it seems like other factors might have more to do with it. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 17:16, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - I'm going to remove that unsupported assertion. SixFourThree (talk) 15:46, 17 March 2010 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

Construction (section) in article

[edit]

Baseball Buggs: Please do not reintroduce the "Construction" section in the article without first correcting the problems. The edit does not meet WP guidelines for several reasons. These include: notability; paragraph and section form; use of external links in the article, and proper formatting for inline referencing of material. All of these guidelines are available to you. Please consider using the Help section (to the left), the MOS, or even the Help Desk if you need assistance in meeting the basic requirements for adding to the article content. 177.43.72.251 (talk) 01:24, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're an IP-hopping troll. Hop on out of here. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots00:34, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop re adding material in this way. It is redundant, improperly formatted and referenced. I think you need help adding material to the article space. There are guidelines that should be followed. Please see the Help Desk or use one of the many guides available for building the encyclopedia properly. Thank you. 177.43.72.251 (talk) 22:30, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"Improper formatting" is not a valid reason for deletion. You're a long-standing troll and will be dealt with accordingly. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:53, 16 June 2013 (UTC

name

[edit]

Sorry but I feel the name ought to be named after the team or locatin — Preceding unsigned comment added by N92413 (talkcontribs)

If the9ers wanted this to be named 49ers Field, it would be named that so please edit this back to the rightful name!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justbntwan70 (talkcontribs) 00:43, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is the second incident where it appears that a user moved/renamed the page solely to protest naming rights, and not anything based on Wikipedia's policies on article titles (even the exact phrase "49ers Field" does not get much google hits[1]). This counts as disruptive editing. Current consensus is that this and similar corporate names are the common names used by most NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, etc. venues across the United States. And thus all Wikipedia articles on those stadiums, ballparks and arenas are named accordingly (such as MetLife Stadium, American Airlines Arena, United Center, etc). Zzyzx11 (talk) 03:34, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In both incidents, the page moves were followed by vandalism. In the first incident back in June, a bogus untrue paragraph was then added (along with a bogus citation) that said that the naming rights were rescinded.[2] In the most recent incident, all cited content regarding the naming rights, including the entire Naming Rights section, was then scrubbed.[3] (And of course, not surprisingly, in both cases a bogus edit summary was entered)
Protesting the stadium's name by changing/removing encyclopedic information is unacceptable per Wikipedia's policies. Thus, the page is now move protected, and any further rename request should go instead via Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. Zzyzx11 (talk) 09:24, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
do as you see fit. Think about dolphins stadium. It has so many names. 15:46, 27 October 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by N92413 (talkcontribs)

I see the deletionists are still winning the battle against information. Why is there no information about the strange decision to put the stadium out in BFE. I just drove from my house in Richmond District to the stadium, and it took over 90 minutes. Putting the stadium way out there is going to hurt attendance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.217.163.67 (talk) 16:23, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hurt attendance? Do you even follow football? It's not like baseball. There's one game a week, generally on a Sunday. A ninety minute drive isn't going to dissuade people from going. Besides, Candlestick ain't exactly downtown.--172.162.0.241 (talk) 01:06, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Location

[edit]

Why was all of the information about the decision to build the stadium in the middle of nowhere deleted? Is the NFL so embarrassed about the decision that they're censoring it? The ridiculous location makes no sense so I'm sure a lot of people are left with that question after reading this intentionally incomplete article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.43.225 (talk) 04:29, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It will be a few blocks away from California's Great America, a major theme park in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would not say that it is "in the middle of nowhere". Otherwise, those businesses in the surrounding area, including the 49ers' own headquarters and practice facilities, would not have moved there. Your opinion that it is "in the middle of nowhere" in a "ridiculous location" seems to be only original research and POV, and thus is not appropriate on any Wikipedia article. This article clearly states in the very first sentence that the stadium will be near both California's Great America and the Santa Clara Convention Center. This idea that it will be "in the middle of nowhere" is not supported by any reliable sources, and therefore cannot be included. Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:38, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't been paying attention to all of the articles about the decision to put it 40 miles from the city. I live in Pacific Heights, and it's three hours each way to get to via public transit on a week day morning. Forty miles from the city is certainly the middle of nowhere. I just want to know why that information has been deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.43.225 (talk) 07:55, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As I stated, the information was most likely deleted by another editor because it did not seem to comply with Wikipedia's policies of Verifiability, Neutral point of view, and No original research. Again, you cannot state your personal view alone. What may be "in the middle of nowhere" for you may not be the case for a 49ers fan living in Silicon Valley who had to drive up the peninsula on the heavily traveled 101/Bayshore Freeway to the 'Stick.

Got to agree with ol' Zzyzx11. I am sorry that the 49ers have inconvenienced you so much in deciding to relocate from that great windswept turd at Candlestick. However, you may be pleased to learn that very few NFL games are played on week day mornings.--172.162.0.241 (talk) 01:11, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Table Format Problems

[edit]

There seems to be something wrong with the transportation table which results in it showing up just above the election results table. I tried a couple of things, however fixing this seems to be beyond my wiki-editing abilities Kevink707 (talk) 19:32, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What?

[edit]

Under 'Opening', events are NOT listed chronologically (logically). And why mention somebody dying? People die at 'big' events all the time, so why is this worth a mention here? 66.81.253.124 (talk) 08:31, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest a Redirect to this Page

[edit]

There are still links active in Google Earth and other resources that reference the old page "Proposed new 49ers stadium" As this page no longer exists, I would suggest that it would be prudent to redirect this old page to the Levi Stadium page to avoid people hitting dead end links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.220.152.66 (talk) 04:23, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well... I don't think that rhat is a Wikipedian option. Maybe bring it up with WikiForge. Maccore Henni Mii! Pictochat Mii! 21:31, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question - how big is the grass field?

[edit]

It would be useful to know how large the field is, and therefore what size pitch can be marked out, especially for Soccer and Rugger - which permit variations in size of pitch.

I am guessing that it cannot accommodate a full sized rugby pitch, which requires 80m wide by 154m long grass area. 2A00:23C6:54C4:3601:F119:5C72:BC78:36B8 (talk) 00:01, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
