JEW

He is of course Jewish. --84.229.212.70 02:01, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

And that, of course, is relevant... how? That said, drop us a source and we can add him to Category:Jewish American writers - I didn't find anything too obvious after a couple of minutes searching. MrZaiustalk 16:38, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I know we aren't supposed to speculate in wikipedia, but when a user screams JEW as if it were some sort of scavenger hunt, we're probably not dealing with a legitimate request for the addition of well-sourced information.  :) Plunge 02:44, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm probably not supposed to weigh in about my own article, and I obviously don't have good wiki-syntax, and anyway you have no reliable way of knowing this is me. But FWIW despite my very Jewish-sounding name I'm not actually Jewish. My father is, but my mother isn't, and I don't consider myself to be. Not that it's a big deal. --24.239.177.232 (talk) 22:05, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Lev Grossman

Of course, if you started editing Wikipedia on a regular basis, that would resolve two things in due course. First, your "wiki-syntax" might improve (I've been here a while, though, and I don't think it's really improved much, so that falls under the "maybe" category). Second, we would be able to know that it's really you, because we would be able to identify you via your... er... distinctive rapier wit. (Haha! Now you know for sure certain wikipedians are Nerd World regular readers!) But, we aren't supposed to chatter idle-lly in wikipedia talk sections, so I will now just say thank you for clarifying the matter, welcome to wikipedia, and that I will now cease and desist from making such idle comments. Cheers. -Alternativity (talk) 09:10, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Lev, always good to see a fellow LHS grad doing well. My comment though is that if your dad is Jewish, it seems like an oversimplification to simply say that you are not. If I tell you my dad is Irish and that my name is Sean O'Malley, doesn't it sound a little weird if I tell you I don't "consider myself" Irish at all? Ashkenazi Jews make up a distinctive historical ethnic group separate from the Jewish religion. Of course you can consider yourself anything you want. Take care! willboston (talk) 04:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Ultimately, it depends on what the Category:Jewish American writers is a categorization of. Is it Religious, or Ethnic, Origin? If the above poster is, in fact, Lev Grossman, then it is clear that if the category is Religious, then the writer does not fall in that Category. If Category:Jewish American writers is a category of Ethnic origin, then verifying that at least one of the individual's parents (or grandparents - though how far back must one go to qualify?) is a Jew should be sufficient. Just because my Mother or Father was born in Ireland, then immigrated to the USA does not make me Irish unless, of course, I was actually born in Ireland (or have appropriate dual-citizenship). Erple2 (talk) 15:12, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Yeah but you'd be of Irish descent, wouldn't you? You'd be Irish American or at least partly so, no? willboston (talk) 03:24, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

thank you, Anon111 (talk) 13:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Anon111

I'm pretty busy nowadays, but I'll try to get to it ASAP. Thanks for being conscientious... and truthful about COI. - Alternativity (talk) 00:41, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Er, I've just been to your link and I'm wondering what exactly is there that you feel ought to go into the article? Thanks. - Alternativity (talk)
I just thought, this link itself could be added to ==external links== in case somebody would like to read this interview with Lev Grossman. thank you. Anon111 (talk) 10:59, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Anon111
Looking through your contribution history, it appears that your main purpose here is to promote that website, so I'm leery to let the link in. In most cases I would let this interview slide by but the book advertisements at the bottom of the page make it seem too spammy. Is there is a transcript of the interview available on the site on a page without advertising (such as a printer-friendly page)? If so, that would be a good link to use.
