Expanded to article

[edit]

I've decided to expand this redirect into an article. My reasoning is that "lettering" is a term used to describe creating letter designs for a range of activities and media: painted lettering, wood-engraving, poster design, logos to go on cars...and so on, so redirecting to calligraphy seems insufficient. (I wouldn't call designing a poster calligraphy, for instance.)

My aim is to provide links to a range of relevant topics: signpainting, posters, comic books, and example uses. There are a lot of great lettering books on the Internet Archive, and I've linked to a selection below. In time adding a gallery might be the next step. Relations to Initial ?

[edit]

How Lettering is related to Initials - decorated page/chapter first letters in books ? Grain (talk) 14:32, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Surely that is just an example of advanced lettering in practice? It might be nice to add a subsection, since it is such a big thing in illuminated manuscripts. Feel free!
