Not rejected

[edit]

Hi, the heading "Its rejection by the Catholic Church" is, shall we say, sour grapes. "The Catholic Church" has never rejected the hymn but embraced it. Just because the USCCB put out a document to deprecate it doesn't mean it has been rejected in any way. The USCCB has no doctrinal authority. They do not actually need to approve any hymn for usage in the Mass or liturgy. The USCCB can't tell any bishop or pastor what to put in their hymnals, or their worship aids, or their holy transubstantiated hymn sandwiches for Mass. There are no repercussions or penalties for using hymns which have been delisted or negatively reviewed there. I suggest that we remove the section entirely, or if it must stay, not characterize this as a rejection or prohibition of use, because it is not. Elizium23 (talk) 05:31, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Documentation? Not all of us are familiar with Catholic doctrine.

I presume I missed a round of edits, because it looks fine now. natemup (talk) 15:10, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
